Hello everyone. I have taken on the task of reformatting a friends mac. I have downloading the ISO of Mac OS x 10.8 Mountain Lion ISO. I have his user name and password for the app store and this works because he has purchased a legit copy.

So, i have gone through the apple help here (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10763). I am to the point of clicking on reinstall OS X. I put in the username and password. I select the disk where i want to install OS X Mavericks. After that a screen comes up that says "downloading additional components. your computer will restart automatically."

I have let this run but nothing happens. Can someone point me in the right direction to get this going?

PS, i am a super noob to macs 🙁

Thank you everyone!

I have to be doing something wrong and I am really struggling to figure it out.

After the download completes it goes back to to the OS X utilities page. If i go to reinstall OS X the same process starts all over. Where do I go after the download completes and i am on the OSX Utilities page?

Important: You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.

Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu (in the top-right corner of the screen).
Select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk (in most cases, it’s the only one available).

I have connected hardwire to the internet. I have attached 2 pictures. I go through the download. It says the computer will reboot automatically. Instead of rebooting the computer goes back to the OS X Utilities page without ever restarting.

When I select reinstall it does download every time. I don't know what you mean by "do you have a file system setup already." So I'm going to go with no

After checking it looks like i have a ISO for 10.8 mountain lion. The reinstall OS X in the OSX Utilities is not working for me. it just puts me into a endless loop.

How i can just install 10.8 and get this computer working. I am so frustrated at this point.

Can anyone help me out?

Do you have the ISO burned to DVD?

Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. This will allow you to boot from the DVD and run the installation.

Back to the original effort, have you verified that your partition is okay?

So, when I go to the apple and click "startup disk" i select the disk then click restart. The system restarts and goes to the apple logo and has the spinning circle and never moves from that.

+1 on the defective mac. I reburned the disk (just incase) and BAM... started to install like i thought it should....

Then I get install failed (pic below).... Eff....

I started the install again... Now its just sitting on a screen that says "Installing" with a large X in the background... Has been sitting on this screen for 10+ hours.

I do live near a apple store. Going to give it to my friend and tell him GL lol.
