Hi:

My system was working properly yesterday and it doesn´t even boot today.

I haven't got any clue.

When I turn on the system there aren't any beeps and the display is black.

The fans turn on and so does the CD light. That's all. I wasn't overclocking and the power supply is an Enermax (very new).

Could it be a bad hard disk?. If so, I didn't know that a bad disk causes no signals on booting.

Sorry for my english.

Regards. Thanks in advance

Could very well be indeed, but also it could be memory sticks, have you tried removing memory sticks and try them one by one in evey memory slots to make sure it's not the ram, otherwise, yes, could very well be the HD. Jusat some thought like that.

VSD,

In my experience if there is no post code at all then odds are it is the Motherboard or CPU. The fans spinning and cd light coming on is a good sign that the system is getting power and the motherboard is sending out atleast a few of the post commands.

There are many other possibilities for what maybe causing this. My suggestion would be to unplug all cd-rom drives, hard drives, and component cards with the exception of the video card and a stick of ram. See if it boots, start plugging things back in until you find the faulty components. Also look down on the main board and see if you see any capacitors that have ruptured.

I've done everything and nothing. So I think it's the mobo or the CPU. It's strange because it was working perfectly last night, and the only thing I was doing was browsing web pages.

I don't know if the BIOS of my mobo is removable (Asus P5AD2E premiun) so I have just asked this question on the Asus forum. That's my last hope.

Regards

VSD,

Do not remove your system bios unless you have a motherboard of the same type. Doing so with incompatable boards can cause damage to the board itself. If you insert the chip incorrectly it can cause the chip to heat up to the point it catches fire (believe me I know).

If you have flashed the bios recently before the failure then their is some good news. If you backuped your BIOS before flashing then insert the floppy and start the computer. It will flash the backed up copy to the eeprom chip.

You may also order a ready made eeprom chip from your motherboard manufacter.

Another thing you may check is to remove the heat sink from the processor to see if there is any notable damage.

Thanks again.

After trying everything, I've decided to take the system to a store to be repaired.

I've come to the conclusion that it is the CPU or the mobo, and I don't have spare parts to check it.

It's been a stormy weather here.

Regards.

No beep codes. Mobo is probably fried.

Now you tell us about the stormy weather. That's nice (sarcasm)! Anyway, my niece had the same problem, bad weather caused a power flash and the next day no boot. Turns out the mobo was fried because of a CHEAP surge protector. I put in a new mobo and it cranked right up. There is no other apparent damage at this point. Do yourself a favor and get a good Surge protector. It's a lot cheaper than replacing a mobo.

Let us know what the results are when you get it back. I'm having the same problem, and it's still not working after getting a new mobo and cpu.
I would try the PSU next because there are no error code beeps.
Read up on testing your PSU here.
