Hi everyone,

I need to build a computer lab for students. We are going to run applications like Office suit, Internet, Photoshop, coral and some basic programming like c, c++, java and .net.
To cut the infrastructure cost i am thinking to use the thin client setup. I have never used it but what i found after goggling is that i can use One powerful machine and can connect 8-10 thin client with it. (correct me if i am wrong). We are going to start it with 8 clients but later we would increase it to 15-20.

Now i need your suggestion to build the main machine. Can i use a normal desktop processor like i5 or i7 for it or do i have to use a server processor like Xeon or Opteron.
Please also suggest should i go with Intel or AMD and how much RAM should i put with it?

Guys AMD FX 8350 or Intel I7 4770 which one would be better to build this server..

How about AMD FX 8350 with ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 Motherboard??

I would recommend using a server CPU to help with the workload and to keep everything smooth as the main PC will be doing a lot of work.

A dual Xeon setup with atleast 8-16GB RAM would be decent enough to run an increasing amount of thin client PCs as the actual client PCs don't have to be powerful like the main PC does.
