Hey, me and 2 classmates have gotten a task, to create a system where we can find what we want in a storage room. But for that, we will need a piece of software that allows us to:
- Search to find specific components and where they are in our storage room.
Example: If i search "100 Ohm" in a search bar, i want it to display my options, like "100 Ohm Resistor". if not, then i would like it to show me options once i press enter after i searched.
The storage looks like this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1A0JfKQ5y8UEXjhxFp3vLxGW44LfjVqGZ

Basically: we are looking for software that allows us to manage, edit and find parts/components in a storage room

You can do that in excel, or google sheets, you're just doing a contains search when filtering. I'm not going to tell you what columns you need, but will engage in discussion about your suggestions of what columns you need. (we generally won't help on homework if it's posed as a 'do this for me' type question, but make it a discussion and we'll help, this is your work, we are a sounding board).

It's not Homework, i am just looking for a software that is userfriendly, for whoever is searching for something, The ting is google docs isn't really what we are looking for, this is not a temporary solution, we want this to be here for years to come. but if this is not the community to ask for help to find software then I'll just have to find help somewhere else.

In that case you need a database, I think any stock control DB will do the job, they should all have locations, but they will come with a shedload of other functionality that you might not need at first. As to naming a specific DB i can't help you there. Hang around, others might.

I see. thanks for answering.

If you have MS Access (part of Office), that comes with some built in database templates that will get you started.
You'll have to tweak as needed.

I will also recommend MS Access.

Especially if some data is already available via Excel spreadsheets.

Let the MS Access wizards provide some initial guidance and then as you learn, you can customize as necessary.

However, you should do some reading and planning beforehand.

For example:

Chapter 2 is important.

And thinking ahead - consider coupling in some barcode readers.
