Hello guys
I was thinking to upgrade my monitor and CPU in future, but I want some recommendation from experts about it
my current specs are

Ryzen 5 1600,
Zotac RTX 3060 ti

ASUS prime b 350 plus motherboard
850 w PSU, 16 GB ddr4 ram

LG 27mp59g 27 inch 75 Hz 1080p monitor

Last year I upgraded my GPU from GTX 1060 6 GB to RTX 3060ti . I play both valorant and AAA titles. and planning to get a Ryzen 5 7600 now.
I play both valorant and AAA titles. but I want to change my monitor because its old now and I want more refresh rate.
my questions are-

  1. Am I getting the right CPU ? or should I go for intel platform ?
  2. Should I go for 1440p 165 Hz 27 inch monitor or get a 1080p 240 Hz 27 inch ?
  3. Can my future specs run 1440p gaming at a decent fps ?
  4. Is it worth upgrading my monitor or should I get 24 inch 240 Hz 1080p monitor ?

If you're buying a 7600 you're buying new motherboard and DRAM as well since that's a Zen 4 CPU which uses the AM5 platform. I think this is a good place to start if you're looking to get an improvement.

If you're looking for a CPU you could use in your existing motherboard then I wouldn't go any higher than the 5600 (non-X) due to the VRM.

Personally at 27" or higher I wouldn't settle for anything less than 1440p.

You're not likely to get 144fps+ in many games (esports type titles being the exception) but it's definitely better for fine details and non gaming usage.

Screen size is a fairly personal decision and I'm not sure the 240hz would be worth it.

On cpu I’d say the guy above is correct. You might be able to get the 5600x3d if you can find one online or have a microcenter near you. Or you may be able to get the 5600x as well. I think I’d definitely avoid the 5800x or above as those chips can use a lot of power and run hot which may overwhelm your board.

But a 5600/5600x would be a huge upgrade from your old 1600.

Monitor is your call. 27 inch to me is a good size. I had a 27 inch 1080p for a while and it’s not bad, a bit of stretching at times. I did later upgrade to a 1440p 32 inch but the 32 inch for me was too big so I ended up selling the monitor and I now have a 27 inch 1440p screen and that is just right for me.

Here’s the catch on monitor resolution though. The 3060ti is going to age fast and is already aging especially due to its vram imo. 1440p looks great. As in you go to 1440p, your cpu will handle things easier and things will look cleaner and more crisp. That’s a very nice visual upgrade imo.

However I will say 1080p is easier for your gpu to handle so kind of a catch 22.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I will get new motherboard and RAM also. I was initially thought about upgrading to a 5600 in my old mobo by doing a bios update, but thinking about future the AM5 will provide better upgradation than my old mobo. and my old cpu and mobo are way too old too. Bought them when ryzen 5 1600 first launched in 2017. Its still running but I think its not a good idea to stick a new CPU in that old thing. I mostly play valorant and casually played AAA games now due to time constraint. So I thought about changing my monitor too. But thinking about future going for a 1440p , 27 inch 165 hz is better option than a 24 inch 1080p 240 hz ,but I am skeptical about the performance of my GPU in future. I know a 24 inch is actually better looking in 1080p but that would be downgrading. So thats why I was so confused about what to do. Bottom line is I want to upgrade to a 1440p, 165 hz but also want a better performance in valorant and also want to get good FPS in AAA titles too.

A 5600 is a terrible buy, with the 5700x being priced so close to it, right now. A 5700x is only $15 more than a 5600x. There is nothing wrong with sticking one, into your current board.

AM5 if you can afford it, is definitely the better long term solution though.

The above poster has a good point. You might be best off to upgrade your CPU, sell your 1600, get the 1440p monitor and maybe use any remaining $$ to pick up a faster gpu. Depends what you want to spend. As you go up in resolution your cpu matters less. Not that am5 isn’t good but you might find that with am5 if you are still using the 3060ti, that without turning graphics down you may not see a huge boost.

27" at 1440p is the sweet spot. anything 120hz to 240hz VRR. Usually you can use monitors for a long time and that thing will last you even if you upgrade the system later. DLSS will make 1440p very usable. The only thing I would reconsider is the processor.
