Need help upgrading my Gaming Pc

I m looking to upgrade my gaming PC but I do not know which I should be upgrading first.?
My Current Specs:
GPU: R9 280X
CPU: I5 2320 3ghz
128 GB Ssd
1TB Hdd
RAM: 8GB

And a 21:9 27inch Wide-screen Moniter
Please help me, I would like to upgrade but I don t know where to start, the motherboard is the Base you get with the acer aspire x3990 when you answer may you suggest parts that I can directly upgrade to? Rather than just say cpu/GPU thanks!

What motherboard do you have? I'd say CPU first then GPU but need to know the motherboard to see what it can support.

This is what I found for the motherboard it's ancient

The Acer Aspire X3990 is compatible with Intel processors with the LGA 1155/Socket H2 socket.

It has 8 GB DDR3 maximum RAM and conforms to the Mini-ATX form factor standard.

What is your budget?
I'd say first buy a new motherboard: the MSI B250I GAMING PRO AC and the buy a new CPU; either an i5-7400, or an i7-7700K if you have the money.
After that, you could buy a new graphics card if you still got money to spare.
I don't know how big you case is though and no budget also makes it really hard to find what would be best for your build.
