[SOLVED] Need help upgrading my laptop RAM

Hello everyone,

I am trying to upgrade the RAM memory of a really old small laptop.
The laptop has a processor of 32 bits and has only one slot for RAM, so from what I understand, the maximum RAM I could aim for is a single memory clip of 4Gb.

The current RAM installed is an "ELPIDA" and can read the following on the current RAM clip:
1GB 2Rx16 PC2-6400S-666 12-A0

Can you please help me out with links to RAM clips that could help me achieve 4Gb of RAM ?

Also I would be happy to understand the signification of what I can read on my RAM clip ?
After some googling I found that:
1GB: Memory capacity in Gigabytes
2Rx16: "2R" for dual rank memories, but I don't know what does "x16" mean
PC2: I am not sure about this one, is it the same as DDR2 ?
6400S: not sure also ? but I read somewhere that the "S" stands for SODIMM ?
666: is it the frequency ? for 666Mhz ? Not sure also..
12-A0: no idea

when you search the keywords you need are : DDR2, SO-DIMM, 800Mhz.
Dual Data Rate generation 2 memory DDR2
Small Outline-Dual Inline Memory Module - SO-DIMM this is the form factor for laptop memory
800Mhz is the speed that the ram you are replacing runs at

if you look on ebay you may be able to find RAM for less. these are older units and retail outlets will nary have them in stock and if they do they will be pricey.

I hope it works well because I ordered by mistake an other RAM last week, before I post my message to this forum:

-> but when I installed it, the system was showing me only 256Mb in the system, I tried to tune the parameters in bios but it was greyed out, and in msconfig I couldn't go further than 256Mb and when I untick the checkbox, the visible memory remains at 256Mb, so this was surely due to incompatibility of the memory clip with my laptop. I hope the new one I ordered works well !
