I've never even owned a pc, was recommended to come here for help by a mate.

I'm not looking for something future-proof or nothing like that, simply need it for 2 things.

  • Run Rocket League at 120+ fps consistently
  • Something i'm able to use for streaming at a decent quality (1080p)

From what i've heard neither of these things should need anything really special, but I literally know nothing at all about what parts are good, what parts go together or don't work together which is why I need help part to part on what I need for those 2 things above. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

I assume your internet connection is decent enough? Streaming uses a lot of bandwidth.

What's your budget? I'd personally recommend one of the newer gen intel 10th/11th gen CPU's or an AMD Ryzen Series chip, but depends on how much you are looking to spend.

You might struggle to get a GPU at the moment, given all the scalpers about. Even lower spec graphics cards are still selling for 1.5x - 2x their market value. I saw a GTX 1660 for sale on a UK website the other day, from a genuine retailer (not eBay or Amazon) for £550! For a 1660 that's outrageous.

I know you're not looking for something "future proof". but it's better to buy something that will actually last a few years at least, than spend a smaller amount and within a year or so it's not running as you'd like, or can no longer perform for your intended purpose.

A build like this would work:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($209.99 @ B&H)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard ($111.12 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($95.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($109.99 @ Best Buy)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER 4 GB TUF GAMING OC Video Card ($549.94 @ Amazon)

The most important part for achieving those framerates is primarily the GRAPHICS CARD, the Nvidia 1650 Super is a great budget card to start with as a baseline. However, with current stock shortages on graphics cards there is a major rise in prices if you were planning to DIY this. So take these specs as a baseline of what you will need and try to find a pre-built at a local computer store or online retailer.

If you do go with a pre-built here are a few things to note:
CPU is an AMD 3600, this is a great CPU at a budget friendly price for what's currently available. I recommend going for an AMD brand CPU but if you are recommended Intel then the 3600 can be compared to an older i9 9700K or i5 10600 (non-k).

RAM should be at LEAST 16GB for optimal FPS performance. Will help out when you decide to play other games too.

Storage, 1TB SSD initially for your operating system and games, but if you plan to install a lot more games you can always throw in a larger HDD.

I have heard that good GPUs are hard to get ahold of and they're way overpriced atm. Budget isn't really an issue but I don't have any need/want for anything extremely special. Simply wanted for those 2 things to last a while

Thank you, i'm most likely gonna have it it pre built since I don't want to go through the effort of potentially getting it wrong while building it myself etc. Any good sites for pre builts you could suggest?

Lots, I'm from the UK too.

PCspecialist (Custom built I bought in 2017)
Cyberpower (My current PC - bought about 3 weeks ago from them)
Chillblast
CreatePC
Overclockers
Scan.co.uk (Bought a custom built system from them in early 2016).

There's literally loads out there, each has their own different pricing structure, so just have a sniff about and see what works best for you.

Nice build. I don't like the source of the GPU however. If you look at the listing, and then click to the seller, you'll see he's got many different graphics cards all for sale, he's only got 5 positive feedback and has only been registered since October last year, the graphics cards are all brand new and sealed, ranging from 3060's to a 3080 which he wants £1,529 for. Clearly a scalper, buying from him would only encourage this sort of madness. A 3070? Only a bargain price of £999.

They've also got numerous "placeholder" listing, which in the description state "do not buy"... so clearly doing this to take advantage of eBay's free listings, and therefore creating these listings now whilst he still can (for free) to add the actual item for sale later on. When you look at the prices of these placeholder listings, they're all £499. My gut feeling is he's got more graphics cards he wants to list but hasn't been able to list them all thus far, so created a bunch of placeholder listings, all with the same price and photo in order to reserve that listing which he'll likely get for free, so that when it comes to it, he can change the placeholder listing to whatever he actually wants to list.

Shows you what sort of seller they are....
