Need help with CPU cooler issue. I purchased a new CPU and MOBO and bought a new CPU cooler I installed the cooler per instructions and had CPU temp at around 60C when idle. I swapped the cooler for another one thinking something was wrong. After instillation I got the same idle temp at around 60C.

I'm pretty sure I installed everything correctly, the only thing that may influence the temp is that some of the thermal paste fell off the top of the CPU; it did NOT go on the MOBO or even the green edge of the CPU, only on the metallic side of it. WOuld this affect the temp?

CPU: i7-6700k
Cooler: Enermax ETS T50

Yes pea sized dot in the middle , then mount cooler , to much could result in high temps.

I used a pea sized amount but the cooler didn't have four screws only two and came with a spreader so a little went over the edge when I used the spreader. I had an evo 212 before and installed it correctly, used a pea sized amount for that too, and got low 30C as my idle temp. I'm about to reinstall my evo 212 to use as a reference and, lol, yes I did remove the plastic.

I used core temp and after seeing the high temp I used CPU-Z just in case, but got the same temps.

Yup, I followed that to the T. In the video, he spreads the paste, would it be safe to try the pea sized drop and try to screw it in evenly. Also would too much paste even give that high of an idle temp?

Lol, yes, I took off the plastic. I used Core Temp then switched to CPU-Z, both gave me the same temp. For the bios, I was told not to really trust that temp.

Thanks, I'll try again before installing the Evo 212

Thanks, for the input! I double checked just in case, The fans are definitely not pushing against themselves.
