Need help with cpu

I am a budget gamer and was planning on doing a very small upgrade. I currently have an i7 860 which is really old. Would it be better for me to just put an AMD 6300 in? My friend is giving me he his motherboard which comes with the 6300 with it. Should I just leave keep the cpu I have now or upgrade. I have a 1050ti and am planning on doing a full pc build in March I was just wondering if this was a good placeholder.

The Fx 6300 is also very old and would actually be a small downgrade in overall performance.
