zakattack1 :
Hi, I have a HP Z800 Workstation Desktop and I formatted and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have searched through HP's website and almost everywhere with no luck but maybe you guys would know. I am using wireless networking not Ethernet just so you know.
Thanks,
Zac
zakattack1,
The first issue that needs discussion concerns the use of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit in an HP z800. The z800 is a dual LGA1366 processor system but Windows 7 Home Premium does not support dual CPU's and is limited to 16GB of RAM. The z800 may use 96GB of RAM. There are other chipset functions missing in Windows Home Premium including prefetch, backup to network, encryption, and so on. Also, I think you can not set up a network domain in Home Premium, and it possibly doesn't support ECC RAM. I'm not completely certain of the last two.
So, my first idea is that Win 7 Home Premium will not include the chipset drivers that support the processors, will not support the RAM, nor probably the disk controller which includes a software RAID.
In summary, I think you will need a copy of
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
Cheers,
