Hey.
My 2TB Samsung M2 Portable has recently died. It's about 5 years old and I admit I could have been taking better care of it by always ejecting before removing the cord. Now every time I plug it into the PC it takes a while to load and Windows asks me if I want to format it. It shows up at My Computer as a drive I can't access. I was able to back up all the data I needed from it using EaseUS Data Recovery, so that's not the problem. What I wanted to do was to fix the drive by somehow editing the MBR so it can skips the bad blocks that have appeared. Does anyone know a good software for that? All the ones I found are just for backing up data and not looking for bad blocks or "fixing" them. I don't have Linux but I can create a VM if it's really necessary.
Also, on a second note: after my main E-HD broke, I turned to my old one. It's a Sony HD-B1 1TB. Somehow it's also broken after just sitting in a drawer for a year or two. This one seems to have a more serious problem than just some bad blocks. Windows only recognizes it at "disk manager" and says there's an empty 900GB partition. When I try to format it, I get an error. I've tried chkdsk and it didn't work. Also tried using the manual cmd format and it took about 2 hours to get to 100% just to say it couldn't be formatted. Is there any way to properly diagnose and fix it or can I just declare it dead and throw it on the trash bin?
Any help with these two issues would be deeply appreciated. Feel free to ask away if anything is confusing. Thank you all in advance.
