Basically this is my first build fromt scratch. I am working to a £500 budget,
So far these are the parts i am looking at, i want to buy everything of "ebuyer.com"

CPU : Q6600
Graphics card : Radeon 4850

I would really like some help filling in the gaps, to make a machine capable of playing games reasonably

PS sorry if this is in the wrong place

Here are some ideas:

Motherboard: GA-P35-DS3

RAM: 2Gb Crucial DDR2-800

PSU: Corsair 500W

Case: Anything you like

Optical drive: anything you like

Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 640Gb.

I just wrote this without checking the price, so you might have to do that.

After looking at the site, the board you'll want that they have will probably be the ga-ep35-ds3. The "e" in front of the "p" designates their new generation of boards that are supposed to be more energy efficient. Also, it almost doesn't make sense not to get 4GB these days since it costs so little more to get 4GB over 2GB.

power supply: corsair 550 watt $100

hard drive: 500gb or so western digital about $100

Straight from ebuyer

"if you have a piggy jar to break for a few more £ do it to get a higher wattage PSU (SilverPower 850W for £75 or Corsair TX 750W for £84) because your motherboard can hold more and it would be a shame that you can not upgrade because your PSU doesn't have enough juice."

future upgrade(s):
RAM +2gb (for 4gb RAM) £28
HDD +250 (for RAID0 possibly..?) £33
another 4850??? (need better PSU for that though)

I think 250GB is a little too small, plus its pretty much a last generation Seagate product.

I still prefer WD Caviar SE16 640GB. Inexpensive, yet packs a punch in terms of performance.
