Question Need help with H150i fans not being detected after a firmware update

Hi all!

I had a question about my H150i ELITE which has been working fine for over a year now. ICUE showed that there is a firmware update which I went ahead and installed. It would show that it’s updating but it wouldn’t change its firmware for some reason. And then I saw that the cpu fans are running at the same speed and slightly loud. I couldn’t change the cpu fans speed and so I restarted the computer. Then there was a bios error saying it can’t detect cpu fans. I changed the monitor setting to ignore so I could boot up windows. Now the cooler does not have any lights and the cpu fans run at the same speed. How can I fix this?

Thanks

Yeah I tried the Corsair forum too. This issue is so bizarre, after contacting so many people and places, literally no one has any idea what to do. The cooler is being picked up in the "Bluetooth and other devices settings" and also somehow in ICUE under the software updates. But still for some reason it does not want to work. Do you think it might be because I set the bios monitor settings to ignore the cooler fan speed and stuff which is why its not even trying to detect it?

i think the firmware messed it up, as it was working fine before you did that. Its possible they can send you a firmware that fixes the issue or at least, takes you back to a working version.

i had a problem with Icue last year where my pump was making weird noises and fans would randomly not start with cooler. I took the hint as it was almost summer and I didn't need fans that don't always start

Oh sorry, it was in the "clink" folder. Also do you have the 1.02.7 firmware file, this was the one I was originally on and I am reading a few posts and have found out that 1.02.8 bricks up everyone's cooler? I need to drag that file into the folder.

yep I was in that reddit post. supposedly the Corsair team does not have the file to manually do it either as one user has said. And also I dont see anyone that has the file. As for that answer that you previously sent with this same method, the person specifies where to get the files to put into the XMC file. But the ones I have are all 1.02.8. So they just dont work.

It looks like Corsair are only answer.

I have latest version of Icue installed only as I still use it to run the RGB on my ram.

I wonder where it puts the drivers. I wonder if the installer replaces the previous one by over writing or just installilng newer ones. I know Microsoft tends to collect drivers in driver store

might help - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/dism/get-windowsdriver?view=windowsserver2022-ps

You can also use Device Manager to find drivers:
  1. Open Device Manager
  2. Find the device you want to update
  3. Right-click on the device
  4. Select Update driver
  5. Click Search automatically for drivers

https://github.com/lostindark/DriverStoreExplorer

thats assuming its still there.

slaps self and realises its firmware, not drivers... where it would be stored is an even more mysterious thing

Yeah thats the issue with firmware, just so complicated. Now the best thing to do is just wait and see what Corsair says as you have said. Will keep posting here about the process and once resolved, I will give the steps to solve this issue and also the 1.02.7 firmware file for anyone else having this issue.

Yeah so when I followed this step:

"You need to find the hex file for the firmware update. C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\Temp and the file name is something like CUE{WEIRDSTUFFHERE}H150{STUFFHERE}.hex "

I found 2 files there in this format. Both are named similarly and one is called this:
"CUE5yIgYJM{8fdfc7ec-7c66-422b-9fba-6cae1f41045f}_temp_20230531_Tamriel_App_v1.2.8_H150I_ELITE.hex"
They are both .hex files and I saw that they both have the same version of v1.2.8 written in their name which is the version causing issues and so when I put this file into XMCbootloader.exe in the corsair ICUE file under program files and corsair, there is obviously no difference.

I have asked a few of the people from that Reddit post that you sent - reddit.
Perhaps they have found the solution or at least have the correct files considering Corsair isn't going to be responding anytime soon.

Update: Corsair have proven me wrong. They just sent a reply already, which has definitely surprised me considering it's literally within 8 hours. However, they said they cannot give files because of their policy and have instead given an alternate solution. I'll give the 3 solutions given a try and then if one works, I will link it here.

I don't know why they don't just make the previous firmware versions available to anyone. I assume they trying to stop other programs supporting their hardware... as some of their items only work with Icue and I assume they want to keep it that way.
Its a common problem and its annoying they won't share them with people who bought their hardware. As I said, one version messed me up last year and I went from using a Corsair 240mm AIO to an Arctic Freezer 360. Lack of support for previous customers isn't very nice.

Yeah, I agree. And the cooler itself isn't even that good compared to other coolers on the market like the new one you have now. Also an update on the situation, I tried the things they told me to but no luck. They told me to send supportinfo logs which is made by their software to check for any issues and data and I had to send that through an email. Will see how that goes and what they do from here.

Most of the value in their AIO seem to be better fans, as the Maglevs are pretty quiet but not the best cooling, and maybe in their RGB software as not many I have found let you put layers of colours on the same lights. My ram used to be alive. Now its just solid colors
And I guess another is letting you run 3 different pieces of hardware off the same software. I had a keyboard, AIO and RAM. Now just have the ram though 2 sticks of it are fakes and just show RGB.

Mine is an old Arctic model, they released a new one about 4 months after I got it. There are probably better still but the arctic is also cheap.
Their fans can make annoying noises when changing speeds... to point I replaced all 3 last week with better fans. So really, the AIO wasn't any cheaper than if I had bought a better one a year ago. The radiators performance is good though.

Not sure if Corsair fans are really that good to be honest. They are quite noisy compared to my other lian li fans. However, in terms of the problem that the cpu cooler has had, Corsair have responded and said to provide shipping details etc for a potential replacement. This is really disappointing for me because now i’d be waiting for a while till i can properly use my computer. I might just have to try and fix my ones myself. Honestly don’t have any idea where to go about fixing them since the only thing I need is the software for the previous version which if they provided, would probably save them money as they won’t have to unnecessarily send out replacement parts.
