So I've kept my computer on the ground for years and the day finally came where I dropped a large cup of water on top of it. The top of the case is mesh and the cup landed upside down and it was completely full. I was in the middle of playing a game and the computer kept running for about 10 seconds while I hurried to rip all the wires out as fast as possible.
I began to panic and pulled the water drenched GPU & CPU cooler out, the cup landed in a way that most of the water fell over the cpu cooler & gpu so the motherboard barely had any water on it, there was still some which I dried with many towels. Since it wasn't totally drenched and I am an absolute lazy potato, I decided not to remove the motherboard, ram or m.2.(completely forgot about the m.2) Instead I opted to hold and place multiple fans and hair driers over all the components for multiple hours and used towels over and over to check for any possible moisture, anywhere. I booted up and it worked perfectly to my surprise.
Until about 2 weeks later when I woke up after leaving the computer on, it's set to sleep after an hour but this time it turned off and would only boot to bios where it couldn't seem to find my m.2 drive which has windows on it. I restarted and it started loading windows, but instead of taking just a second like it usually does it was loading for about 30 seconds then gave me a super fast bsod that I still can't read and shut off. I would have to restart the pc 5-10 times for it to finally boot normally to windows.
I had been experiencing this issue for a couple of weeks now so I finally decided to check the m.2. I take off the shroud and instantly realize that there's still water under there that the thermal pad had mostly soaked up, I took the shroud completely off and moved the m.2 to the other slot after completely drying it up. After I did this, it began to work perfectly for a few days. (keep in mind I had to deal with the inaccessible boot device thing every single day so this was amazing)
So now the problem is back and it seems to have gotten worse, my computer has completely frozen and shut down twice while writing this and that's never happened before, anytime it would finally boot into windows it would work flawlessly until I shut it down and had to go through all of that again.
What's your advice here? I have a lot of important work related stuff on this m.2 and I'm not so sure that transferring the files to another drive will work because I have a feeling it could be corrupted somehow, especially if it shuts down half way through the transfer.
I have considered just downloading windows on the 860 evo ssd and just booting off that but I'm not sure how exactly it would work, I'm not that great with software.
Also, yes I am surprised the computer even works at this point.
