need help with my storage delema

Hello, i need help deciding on how to go about solving my impending storage problem. i have many drives ither in, or attached to my PC, and currently mot of them are between 50 and 90% full. because i dont often dump data as im a bit of an archiver, and local media consumer. i had been contemplating building a multi-use NAS machine using newer hardware, but because of the way ram prices had been, and dont appear to be settling down anytime soon, ive been holding off on buying parts. what i cant decide is: should i continue to wait, and see what the supply line, and prices do, or should i just 'invest' in a DAC or something of that nature. something i can just through some drives in, and clump them together for a massive pool. im looking for about 10TB, of usable space.

Wow, that is a lot of data.

Your best bet is to go with a huge HDD (Like a BarraCuda) and have a small SSD with windows and some commonly used programs. That’s what I would do.

When you say multi-use what are you looking for? I've been using proxmox for my homelab and it's pretty sweet. You can really do a lot more if you build your own over buying a premade NAS.

Samsung recently built a large NAND factory. prices should be dropping this year, fingers crossed.

One potential solution would be taking a look at a DAS box, something like a Drobo, with either BarraCuda Pro or IronWolf drives if you're planning on multiple drives/RAID.

hey all. over the past few months, ive been working on solving this issue, via building a NAS. ive got 99% of the parts, save fore a few issues with mobo im currently working with, and the drives themselves. when i can, i do plan to get a syn. box as extra backup.
