Need help with overclocking

I have two questions:

Can I overclock my GPU mildly by raising the Core clock and the Memory clock without raising the Core voltage?

And does high tempratures shorten the life of my GPU or just a higher voltage in general?

So the real question is can I overclock my GPU just by raising the core voltage by a small amount without damaging it (and keeping the tempratures low under full load)

Some what but it depends on the quality of your gpu chip. IE it varys. If you have crashes in game after the overclock then you went to far for stable operation at that voltage so just move it down a bit till its stable. Yes higher temps do shorten the life of your GPU but unless you up voltage its very little.

I have CX600 by Corsair and if anyone wants to know I have asus strix gtx 970

Doesn't matter if your not increasing the voltage much at all. The cx600 is a good PSU so should be fine.

At most an amp but once you up the voltage it starts to climb fast.

An amp is about 11.75W but varies a bit a the PSU mostly stay above 12v.
