Hello, i have a problme, you see i wanted to forward some ports for the game League of Legends (more about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkxhsxaqkPI ) but here is the deal, i recently changed my internet provider, with it everything changed, but here`s the deal, when i tried to port forward and looked for my IPv4 in cmd it was something strange, it wasnt some standard 192.168.0.1 or something like that, it goes like 192:168.*2 digit number*.*3 digit number*
and the same goes for the default gateway, so when i try to enter that in port forwarding section in browser it says invalid ip!
what to do?

Solution
Right. I can't help you with that. That is not a standard network setup. Even as a Network Engineer, I would not advise doing it the way you have it setup and if I ever saw that in the field, I wouldn't touch it.

For one, if you are using the router wifi on your phone then tethering to your PC. You are still limited to the 150mpbs because you are still using the router wifi through your phone. Most phones will default to its connected internet source for wifi instead of using the phone data plan because that would use up your data. Some but very few plans. Will allow both data plan and wifi plan to be used at the same time.

Secondly. You showed me a speed test while tethered to your phone... you are getting 28mpbs not 425mpbs... I bet...
It sounds like your subnet is not the same as it was before.

First off go into your network settings on your desktop and set everything back to DHCP (incase its on static already).

The open CMD and type in IPCONFIG and list here what it reports back with. (mainly, what is your default gateway, current ip address etc...)

Normal default subnet is 192.168.1.x but some vendors change things around and different modems may have different defaults like 192.168.2.x instead. It is perfectly normal.

So if that is the case, follow the video and do as it says but with your new network address, 192.168.2.x

You will need to reassign yourself a correct static IP again on your desktop so you can forward the ports to your machine properly.

Hi, thanks for replying to my thread, you see i tried the same thing you specified but the thing is when i type in my ip adress in Port Forwarding section it says Invalid Ip Adress.

im typing my ipv4 adress that i got from CMD,and my connection mode is DHCP not Static

Ok well first problem is you need a static IP assigned. If your computer reboots you could lose that DHCP address and port forwarding wont work correctly.

You also need to make sure you are assigning yourself an IP address that is not currently being used. So make sure to ping the address and that there is no reply before you assign yourself the address.

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/

You want to use a similar scheme to what you see in DHCP. But since you didn't post your output from CMD IPCONFIG I don't know what to tell you to use.

I'm guessing something like this.

IP 192.168.2.10 (or w/e IP isn't being used)
GW: 192.168.2.1 (or w/e your DHCP gateway displays)
DNS: 192.168.2.1 (or the same as your current gateway)

Ok something is off here. Your system information doesn't match your router info. Do you have a router and also a modem in play here?

When you did the CMD IPCONFIG was there more networks showing there or just this one? and again, is your system on DHCP or Static?

The router you are editing on 192.168.0.1 doesnt match your default gateway of 192.168.42.129. According to what you linked me. You should be doing port forwarding on whatever device is 192.168.42.129 as that is your default gateway and what is giving you internet.

How is your devices connected to each other? Something doesn't look right here.

Well you see, the router is actually in another apartment, so no i dont have access to it, im connected via Phone, and sharin Internet via Tethering, and before u ask yes its the same when i use my Wifi Adapter.
I did a speed test : https://ibb.co/cUbmPv

So wait, let me get this straight.

You are connected to the router wifi with your phone, then tethering your phone to your laptop/desktop for internet access?

Why dont you just connect straight to the wifi? Why are you tethering from your phone?

Also if you dont have access to the root device AKA the router in the other apartment. Then you can't properly setup port forwarding. You can't do it while tethered off your phone either...

1. Yes via my phone.
2.Because the Wifi adapter is limited to 150Mbps, when using my phone however its using 425Mbps
3.Currently no i do not have acces to it, but before i changed the internet provider i used the same technique of Port Forwarding (via my Phone)

Thirdly. You are trying to do port fowarding through your phone which is using a completely different network then your router. This is why your router is saying "invalid IP address" because it does not know your phones network.

If you want to do this properly. I suggest you stop tethering from your phone and connect to the router wifi instead. 150mpbs alone is more then enough to play LOL.
