Hello I am new to this forumz but I came because I hear the peoples information are very helping here.

Well to get to the point (this may be a noob question), I need help understanding how to tell the difference in speeds of different type of ram, for example "whats the difference between pc3200 and pc2 6400" like i have no idea what that means, I'd also like to know what ram is over-clockable or not. And lastly i've been reading and i dont understand by what ppl mean by saying they have thier ram set to different numbers example "ram timing 5-5-5-15". I have no idea what that means.

no one has to answer each one of these question, I'd even appreciate any links to any websites or link to guides about ram, to help me catch up. thx

any help is appreciate

Welcome

if you want to overclock you should go for the faster ram such as PC6400(800mhz)
if you get 800mhz ram it wont run that fast unless you OC the FSB of the MotherBoard
on say a Core2duo system the FSB is 266mhz by default, the ram runs at double this because it is DDR(Double Data Rate), so it runs at 533mhz
If you want to OC you have to raise the FSB, say you raise it to 400mhz that means the ram runs at twice that(800mhz) which is why it is needed for overclocking

the timings of the ram is the latency, the lower the better
although it doesnt matter that much

if i have pc3200 in my current mobo, is it okay if i stick the pc6400 in there or is there some thing i need to double check on first, my current mobo is 103390 - Intel (Augsburg) 915G Motherboard No CPU R0( http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/103390/103390nv.shtml ), cpu: 3.06ghz p4 HT,RAM - PC3200 1.5GB, GPU: BFG 7950 GT OC, AUDIO: AUDIGY SE.

But as for my previous question i would still like answers if possbile, because i'm interested in over clocking this system and building a new system soon.

OMG!!! Don't try and put a PC6400 memory stick in a motherboard that takes PC3200. The PC3200 has 184 pins on the bottom while the PC6400 has 240 pins. If you try and put that PC6400 on that board, you will ruin both the memory and the board. SHEEESH!!! 8O
