I built the following system in July 2023:

Win 11 Pro | i7-12700K | Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX D4 | Deepcool AK620 Dark CPU Cooler | XFX Speedster MERC319 Radeon RX 6900 XT Black Gaming | Cosair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4 3200 CL16 | Samsung 980 Pro 2TB M.2 SSD (x2) | Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SATA SSD | Lian Li Lancool 216RGB ATX Case | MAINGEAR IGNITION 1200 Watt 80 Plus Platinum PSU

It ran beautifully for a few months until I did the following:

23H2 Upgrade with Windows Insider Program (I reverted back to 22H2, didn't help)
Newest Radeon drivers (since then reverted to older version)
Updated drivers with GCC (Gigabyte Control System)

Now it will hang for 10 to 20 seconds. The screen will dim and mouse disappears. This morning I was doing screen prints of errors to post here and it happened. Often it happens with YouTube videos, recently it did it when exiting fullscreen, but not consistently. It also has happened in Excel. Once it starts it continues and becomes more frequent, like multiple times in a minute or two. I've logged out and back in to get control back and I've rebooted. I've scanned with Windows Defender for viruses.

The only thing I've been able to find in my troubleshooting is where Game Bar stopped responding with the Problem Event Name of MoAppHangXProc.

Any ideas?

Hey there,

You could try reset CMOS and set the bios to default. Once done test again. What bios are you running?

You could also test your ram with memtest86+ and rule out ram as an issue.

I have F9 BIOS version, which is not available on the Gigabyte website. F7 is the latest available for download. So, GCC must have updated it.

I'm currently running MEMTEST86+. It is like watching paint dry. I'm on my BudgetBox, a Ryzen 5 3600 that I got last Black Friday from Micro Center for $130 (CPU & MB.)

Right after I posted the above info, I opened a file in Excel and it hung and was hard to get control back.

This is the first error in msinfo32 WER:

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Another new trick. I ran it and it did find something with /ScanHealth. So, I ran it again with /RestoreHealth. Here are the results:

I see no reason to make that change.
It is standard practice to clear your CMOS (CLRTC) after a bios update or if you are having other issues.. If you did not do that when you last updated, it could be the reason for your troubles.

When you update the bios, clearing CMOS will clear any remnants of microcode from the CMOS memory. It will default your bios to it's factory settings. This process takes all of about 5 minutes.

So far, so good. It has not run this long without issues for few months.

Thanks @Roland Of Gilead and @punkncat!

Years ago, long before retiring, I was a CNE and MCP (Windows 2000). Stuff has come a long ways since then.

Cheers John. You are very welcome. You're right about tech and it's advancements. That's why I come here to Tom's - To keep growing my knowledge, answer and ask questions.

Good luck! Let us know if there are further issues.

Thanks, but it is hanging again. It did it in Excel, part of Office Pro 2019. I was using it earlier without issue, but just now it hung. Once that started, now Print Screen hangs. With recent updates to Windows 11 you can select what to capture from your screen with your mouse. That hangs, but it gets more than it shows.

Have you re-installed Windows? This might be the only option left. Upgrading and downgrading from Windows builds, may have caused an issue that's not detectable by SFC. or as a conflict.

This was a fresh install. All that has changed is normal updates. Since I did SFC and DISM, it is running much better. For my spreadsheet work I'm using Libra Calc instead of Excel. I've not had to reboot. Even Print Screen is working properly.

Is there a way to do a repair install of Office Pro 2019?

@Roland Of Gilead - I think I've found the problem, at least heading in the right direction. I took out the GPU and ran DDU. I have been running on the UHD Graphics 770 IGPU for over 24 hours and haven't had it hang. A few things pointed me to this decision:

1. The Icons on the taskbar would not always display
2. When I would enter something in a cell on Excel and move to the next cell the screen would flash
3. Switching between full screen and default view on YouTube videos would trigger the hang
4. As I mention initially, the problem didn't start until I updated to 23H2, Updated Gigabyte drives with GCC and updated GPU drivers.

Now I need to reinstall GPU and try it. If the problem returns, I have two more GPU to try, all are AMD. The RX 6750 XT running on my budget box has been flawless with the Ryzen 5 3600.

UPDATE: The GPU is back in the system with latest Radeon drivers. So far it seems to be working. The Icon on the taskbar all show up. BUT, time will tell if the problems are resolved.
