Hello!

I had made topics on this forum late last year with help upgrading my desktop with a GPU, fan, and PSU, Happily thanks to the advice on this forum despite me having no experience it all went very well without any problems. Many games that I could not run before now run perfectly. But unfortunately having a dual-core processor means my GPU(GTX 660) is being bottlenecked while attempting to run games such as Overwatch which has severe frame drops and cannot reach 60 FPS on even the lowest settings available. And one game, Street Fighter V I cannot run all together but it's really the only game that has given me that problem.

Nonetheless, I would like to fix that problem by upgrading my CPU and RAM.

My current desktop r is a https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113253

My mother is a DX4380G by Gateway.

I was wondering what my options were with upgrading from my current processor : " AMD A6-5400k APU with Raedeon(tm) HD Graphics 3.60 GHZ ". It seems that I have an FM2 socket not sure what that means in relations to FM2+ socket CPUs.

Is there a processor that could be good for me to upgrade to at this point? Or would the cost not be worth it and I should now try to get a new platform all together? How much money could I be expecting on the latter for a gaming PC on a budget since I already have a good enough GPU, PSU, and fan for now that I could transfer.

Thank you for reading! I would really appreciate any advice or insight on this subject really trying to weight my options here.

I can't seem to find any decent info on that motherboard, but I suspect it's an FM2 socket. If it were FM2+ you would have more options available.

Option 1: get a quad core cpu for your existing motherboard. Anything from the Athlon x4 7xx / A8-6xxx / A10-6xxx series would fit

Option 2: new motherboard and CPU, but again I can't find any info on your PC so I don't know if your existing case would accept a standard mATX / ATX board, so in reality it's time for a new mobo / cpu and a new case to go with it. Likewise for the PSU, it is probably not good quality and I wouldn't recommend transferring it

Option 1 is by far the cheaper option but you're basically upgrading to the equivalent of a second gen i5, not a powerful CPU however it would get the job done. If you have the cash, definitely look towards a new rig imo

Whats your budget for the upgrade? Whats the make and model of your PSU?
If the PSU is decent and you have the budget.

Thank you. That is correct it is indeed a FM2 socket and not FM2+.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113410&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-VigLink2-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=8167372&SID=j0o0zm1uti000a1700053

Do you believe that CPU could be comparable for me and meet my needs at a serviceable level for the time being? It is one series above what you listed so I assume maybe not? But it seemed to be the best model I could find for a best price.

I would love to save for a new motherboard or an outright new PC entirely but my budget is limited for the foreseeable future. I mentioned my PSU is not stock but EVGA 600 B1, 80+ BRONZE 600W did replace the stock to accommodate the GPU and new fan I installed.

Drop in your old HDD(clean os install will be needed). You could also sell your old parts afterwards and drop in an SSD.
