Hi, I haven't shopped for a printer in like 10+ lol.

I'm looking for a basic printer. If buying one that just prints black and white will save money, I will just do that.

I don't print photos or anything. The most complex thing I do is probably printing shipping labels.

I'd like to save money on ink. as well.

I was thinking about something like the "Brother HL-L2320D Mono Laser Printer" from OfficeMax. But will using a lser printer cost more because of ink?

Solution
No. In fact, laser printers are much more cheaper in toner than ink. With inkjet, you have to refill them a lot. I have a Brother monochrome (can't remember the model), but it is an AIO that futures duplex printing. I would highly recommend getting a laser printer over an ink jet. Always get the toner from the brand themselves. I bought two high-yield toners for about $80 with an amazon promo code. Just to give you an idea, I am still using the starter-kit printer (included with the printer) and I printed over 250 sheets already.

A laser printer is almost certainly much, much cheaper than an inkjet.
Initial cost might be a bit more, but overall running costs should be much lower.

I have a 10 year old Dell 3100cn laser. About to give it to my daughter.
Color, network, blah blah. It was $330 when I bought it in 2006(?).

About 5,000 pages through it. I've had to replace 1 toner cart so far...the black for $45.
A low price inkjet, you'd be replacing some of the carts at about the 200-300 page level, at best.
The inkjet carts are cheaper, but if you have to replace them at 10 times the rate....

And for print quality, the laser blows away the various inkjets I've had.

You replace the cartidges. Also, make sure to buy from the brand you are getting. HP printer, get a HP toner. Eson printer, get Eson toner, etc. The reason for this, some 3-rd party toners could damage how your laser printer functions. Like I said I bought two high-yield at a discounted price, and in theory, those should last 5,000 pages. Don't think I will be doing that much printer.
