Hi, I wonder if any experienced users of Win 11 Pro can help me. I have just received this new machine. I have two days installing Win 11 Pro (spent half an hour on the phone with Microsoft to activate it even though I have bought a retail USB version of the OS, sigh...), installing all the latest drivers, fully updated Windows. So everything seems to be working fine. No error. I like listening to jazz. I usually play Youtube videos with different genre of Jazz. I know they are compressed. I had a very economical Edifier M1380 2.1 speaker system. It worked OK with my laptop. Surprisingly, with this new rig, the sound came out with quite a punch, most likely due to the difference power output beteween a laptop and a full PC system.

When googling about equalizer on Windows, most of the videos I found involved button that's not available to my Windows!!! They all showed a button called "Enhancement" but it is not there when I followed the instruction. Anyway, so I went and downloaded DeskFX. The software was installed without problem. But when using it, it seems to treat the process as a recording session through the speaker chosen. However, there seems to be nothing going through as there is a meter at the bottom right corner which NEVER moved a bit. Contacting the support didn't help. The guy just gave me standard instruction. Hell, they didn't even reply to my 2nd email.

I downloaded and installed another software called "Equalizer APO". Again, the software was installed without any error. But when using it, playing Youtube Jazz video, I didn't nothing any change at all. The software has a preamp function. I didn't notice any change in the volume coming out through the speaker.

I have checked the Realtek audio driver which is the latest. So, is there something that I have missed? I know Realtek has a software called something like Realtek Audio Studio. But I read that it is rather old and seems to be causing problem with other software. So, I never attempted to install it. Let alone trying it out.

Oh, I missed out perhaps something important. I used Winhance to debloat the Windows. But I didn't remove any software relating to audio. Any idea? I would be most grateful if anyone can shred some light on this equalizer issue. Many many thanks in advance.

Regards,
Alex

Solution
From the link you provided above, among the conversations, they had pointed out the "enhancement" function and it is not there for me.
However, then later on, FXSound was suggested. I duely downloaded and installed. It is now early morning where I am. So, I have to put on my headphone. Well, the software works! Both the Dynamic Boost (like preamp) and Bass Boost when increased, I can clearly notice the difference unlike the two software I mentioned in my original post. Strange, isn't it?
Surprisingly, with this new rig, the sound came out with quite a punch, most likely due to the difference power output beteween a laptop and a full PC system.
Depending on your platform, if you got something that's got concurrent hardware, then the audio circuitry is miles better than what you usually find on a laptop(unless said laptop is high end) regardless, the audio solution would be better on the PC.

I have just received this new machine.
Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Edifier M1380 2.1
If you're using the onboard audio solution off of your motherboard, then you need only work with the audio app that came bundled with the platform instead of third party apps. That being said, mind walking us through how you installed all drivers for your platform?

Moved thread from Windows 11 section to Home Audio & Theater section.

I am very sorry. Here is the specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (watercool by)
ProArtist UA360 AIO (top mounted)
MSI MAG B850M Motar WiFi motherboard (updated to latest BIOS yesterday)
32 GB 6000 DDR5 RAM
2TB NVMe SSD
Powercolour HellBound RX 9070 XT 16GB VRAM
GTR Plus 1000M Platinum PSU
MSI MAG Forge 320L case with 1x120 intake fan at rear, & 2x120 intake fans at front
Win 11 Pro 64bit (retail & fully activated)
ASUS XG27UCG (connected to PC via a DP2.1 cable)

I use Adrenaline to manage the GPU & CPU AIO. Well, I didn't change anything regarding the fans speed for both. I did undervolt the GPU, getting some amazing result with low power usage (220W as compared to 316W before the change). I noticed that the Adrenaline came with AMD Audio Noise Supression. But I didn't touch it at all.

As far as installing the drivers, I went to MSI website, located the motherboard model and then downloaded the latest version of all relevant drivers. This was done using my ASUS gaming laptop. Then all drivers were saved onto an USB stick. After installing Windows and activated it. I installed the chipset driver first, then Network, followed by Bluetooth, then the Realtek Audio driver.

I then downloaded Winhance to debloat the OS. This was followed by installing and running DDU in Safemode. After rebooting, I then installed the latest Adrenaline software from AMD. I think that is about it. Oh, I then spent the whole night downloading all my games on Steam. It was during this lengthly download, I throttled the bandwidth within Steam so that I can watch Youtube at the same time Steam can download about 200Gb of games. It was during this time, I was trying to fiddle with the sound and equalizer bits.

Regards.

A long read but has several options what to try.

Edifier M1380 2.1 speaker system
That is standard 3.5mm jack speaker system. Nothing special but better than nothing. Also, with subwoofer, it has a bit more "oomph" to the sound. But other than that, i'm not quite sure you can even adjust equalizer for 3.5mm output. 🤔

For best audio experience, better to use USB based devices, like headset. Since many of them come with their dedicated software for equalizer (e.g like my Corsair Void Pro USB 7.1 Dolby Surround, controlled via Corsair iCUE software). Every music listening i do, is via my headset with custom equalizer. Now, i do have 3.5mm jack 2.1 speakers as well (AverMedia Ballista Trinity GS315), but my speakers have dedicated AMP with Treble and Bass tuning buttons (the equalizer part).

So, when you can't get the software equalizer working for 3.5mm jack, i suggest buying speakers that have their dedicated AMP with them, or USB headset that comes with dedicated software program to control them. Much better audio experience this way. :)
