Need Mobo for Barton used as file server

Gonna switch to a mobile. Will use the desktop barton in a file server role. Already have the NIC. May not even need onboard graphics, gotta a ten yr old PCI vid card I've been wanting to do something with.

No OCing of course. I like a good reputable company with good warranty. Murphy's law is always kickin my butt and wanna be able to rma w/o a hassle if I need to.

The <A HREF="http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_product_spec_details_r_us.jsp?PRODUCT_ID=2141&CATEGORY_TYPE=MB&SITE=NA" target="_new">DFI NFII Ultra Infinity</A> has 4 S-ATA channels, interesting feature to run a fast server in SATA RAID 0+1 (if you're into that SATA RAID stuff). The board is cheap and rock solid. Customer service is quite good (as far as I'm concerned). It has wonderful overclocking features for your Mobile Barton too.
Check into it.

Wusy - embarrased to say I'm not familiar with the dual LAN thingy. But I'l have fun researching something new.

Oracle - Haven't yet gotten into the SATA RAID stuff yet. But am interested and will be doing

It sure is interesting. With these 4 SATA channels, you can hook up 4 SATA drives and set a RAID 0+1 configuration. That's really fast and safe at the same time. It's what a server needs.
The board I propose already has an integrated LAN port, so, with your NIC, you'd get dual LAN.
Wusy's board is also good, but is double the price of the DFI board.

Why not just keep using your Abit NF7-S for the file server. I have great experience with with NF7-S. I would install Windows 2000 server or Windows server 2003 for the server. The operating systems have software RAID support build in. I have a system with 6 80gig harddrives in RAID 5 using the software RAID. It have been perform very well for me for almost 2 years.

I don't know what other stuff you'll be inserting in your machine. But watch out for PSU cababilities too if you plan on adding several HDDs and other components.

I was gonna keep the NF7-S in my gaming rig. Just ordered a 2600 mobile to go in it.

If there was a better mobo for gaming with the mobile Barton, then I would move the NF7-S over to this little server project
