Need new card

Hello all,, new member here

Im running a Gateway FX 530 XV

Rig as fallows:

Motherboard: Intel975X (BigArm) - Viv capable
Northbridge: IntelD975X
Southbridge: ich7-Dh

CPU: Core 2 Duo (2.4 GHZ 1066 MHz FSB 4MB )

PSU: 700 watt

Ram: I will max ram out 8 gigs with (CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX)


Ok My question is.. Im not real sure how big of a Graphics card i can put in my rig? Im currently running a Gforce 8600 gt 512mb. I believe it is a pci express board I want to put in the bigest card my board can handel.

I would love to be able to put in a EVGA 02G-P3-1568-KR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card.. I really want to hook up a 1080 HD moniter!!!

Any help or suggestions would be great thx guys...

Your old card more than enougn why u need new card? Im currently using 6800xt for gaming and no lag

The GF 560 or a Radeon 6850 or higher will allow 1080p gaming with most of the settings turned up. The real limitation of your system is going to be your CPU on any more modern games.

You should have no trouble putting in the 560Ti and the psu will support it , the thing that could be a potential problem bottleneck is the cpu. The core 2 duo is a little weak at 2.4ghz so if you could overclock it a little and try to get it up close to 3.0ghz that would be good. If you could upgrade the cpu that would also work out good.

thax inzone!!! ..Ok heres my next ? Ive never replaced a cpu before.. buying a new motherboard and slapping ina new cpu seems preety easy...But since i would be replaceing a older cpu.. Wouldnt it have that old therma lpaste and stuff on it? Or would it pop out pretty easy?

When you take off the heatsink/fan the thermal paste is on both the cpu and the fan , if you take a credit card or similar thin plastic piece you can then gently scrape the paste off and finish cleaning it with a soft cloth with some Isopropyl Alcohol , don't put too much just enough to dampen the cloth to remove the rest of the paste. The you can release the retntion clamp that holds the cpu down in the socket being very careful not to touch the bottom where the pins are. It is very important to not bend the pins on the cpu or in the motherboard socket. One bent pin and the thing is junk so be extremely careful. When placing the cpu in the new motherboard socket make sure you line up the socket with the cpu like it shows in the owners manual of the motherboard.
