[SOLVED] Need possible upgrading advice.

Hello forum,

Just have a quick inquiry for you all. I am considering upgrades to my PC which I got for about $400 just over a year ago now.
I'm looking to be able to play most newer titles alot of which I can say are usually CPU intensive such as : Total War, Arma, Asseto Corsa, Mount&Blade 2, etc. It's a wide range of games I play. I don't need to be able to run games on max settings but at least the default settings would be nice, as right now even games I shouldbe able to run seem to get bottleneck alot causing very low frames or stutters. Also curious about possible benefits of overclocking my system in the meantime as I've never done this before.

Sadly you need to replace pretty much everything.

FX-6300 is a very outdated processor at this point. There are no significant upgrades worth doing and overclocking will only gain you a small amount of performance.

Minimum you are looking at a new processor, motherboard, and ram. GTX1050 is a very entry level gaming GPU at the moment, but not really anything better unless you have deep pockets.

I was kinda thinking that would be the case.. I know I am using fairly outdated tech right now as it's from about 2012. I already have new DDR4 RAM waiting aside for my upgrades so I know a new M/B was in order for those to be compatible.. was looking at the B450 M but I'm unsure what my best path would be for a reasonable price. I can wait on the GPU a bit longer but I know my CPU is really holding me back. Would you recommend AMD or Intel? I've heard and read over the years AMD is better for gaming in general.

What is your budget and where might you shop?
Your fx processor really is obsolete for gaming.
Games depend much on the single thread performance of the master thread.
On your FX-6300 run the cpu-Z bench and look at your single thread rating. It should be about 225:

The i3-12100/f will score about 657. About $170 in the US.

Even though your cpu is dated 2012, the FX cpus had roughly 66% of the IPC of a 3rd gen Intel i5. Basically putting it on par with the ancient lga775 top line builds. And being a 6/12, even a move to a 8320E or 8370E 8/16 really won't do all that much.

So pretty much wherever you go is going to be a massive increase in ability. And that depends on you.

Right now, Intel is budget king. The 12100/12400 is sticking it to Amd, getting fps up around the level of a 5600x - 5800x, unreal performance at a budget price. A better price than 11th gen at the same level of ability by a wide margin. But thats brand new.

Used stuff is still relatively cheap(ish) and generally easier to get ahold of, but takes a serious performance hit in the process.

So the question, what's more important. Just being able to play for today, or something that'll last another 5+ years, because anything remotely oldish 5 years ago is suffering badly. Ppl are dumping 6th-8th gen as much as the market can bear.

Zen+, Zen2 are still decent, Zen3 is better, or 12th gen. 10th Gen if it's a decent cpu. Other than that, you are trusting to luck with someone else's issues.

Have a local PC shop here in my city I might go to seems to have reasonable prices, online is always a good option given where I am located however. I used to buy parts from Newegg. As for my CPU benchmark it comes in rated at 211.5 for single thread.

Go visit the shop. Get an idea of what you are looking for, what'll work for you, watch some pro reviews of the equipment included in the pc, see where it stands and if it's going to be worth the price.

Guy in another post has opertunity to get a Maxwell Titan X. After some research, opted to spend $60 more for a 1080ti with 2 year shop replacement warranty. Bargain.

Take your time, check the deals, do the research.

I don't know the PSU and it's not super accessible in the case So I can't tell easily.. but I think it's 600W and I run with 1920x1080 119 refresh rate monitor. Would like to keep the total cost under $800 if I can but if it sacrifices longevity I'll save for better parts.
