Hello guys, using currently AMD FX 4300 + 10GB DDR3 + R7 260X PC, the cpu side gives me some problems about performance, i have small render stuffs and playing WOW.

I will upgrade my CPU but the problem is if i buy i3 6,7 series or new Ryzen series CPU i wont be able to use my DDR3 rams. I have limited budget and cant buy a DDR4 ram really now.

So in this situtaion i may buy a CPU + Motherboard with sticking my DDR3 rams.

I am really confused.. At the end of my researchs the best option seems like i3 4170 CPU is the best CPU i can use with my DDR3 ram at intel side (At intel website information indicates i3 4170 is not using SmartCache?)

Also it looks like i have an option for goin FM2+ CPU which can be a10-7890 or athlon x4 880 etc etc.

What combination or which cpu will you suggest me guys i really need help 🙁

Solution
fx4300 vs fx8350
3.8Ghz 4-core 4thread vs 4.0Ghz 8-core 8-thread

ofc it makes great difference, but not much at single-core performance

and for 4170, benchmark says that 4170 is slightly better than 8350 at single-core performance
but still, 8350 overtakes 4170 at multi-core performance (which is on some modern games)
why not fx8350? or 8370? as it uses AM3+ socket
also, going for 8350 or 8370 is better than going for fm2+ a10-7890 or x4 880

on the other side,
FX 8350 is a 8-core 8-thread while I3 4170 is 2-core 4-thread,

8350 has more TDP than 4170

Well you said like that hmm.. is it really worth upgrade ? i need more single core performance.. will fx 8350 make difference over fx 4300 at single core performance ? and i guess overall i3 4170 is better than fx 8350, isn't it ?

Thanks for the reply by the way.

Minimalist approach: get an FX-6350, your board may not support the power needs of an 8000 series. I didn't look up the specs, but I recommend you do so before committing to an FX-8xxx CPU. I ran a 6350 for several years and it was more than enough for WoW, which I played heavily with it; still is sufficient in many ways, depends on your use.

I would not spend more on a system switch to Intel, you're going to spend more. Get a 6350 now and save up for an AM4 rebuild down the road. Move up to 16GB RAM, new sticks, as your next move. After that, an SSD will greatly improve your system. That's the same path I took: CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD.

The 6350 isn't going to have any better single threaded performance really than a 4300. Also the 6350 is a 125w chip, like many of the 8000 series. There are some lower wattage 8xxx series cpu's, but still won't improve the type of performance the OP needs here.
