need recommendation on cpu upgrade

I have a H-RS880-uATX (Aloe) with a AMD Phenom II X4 840T 2.9 ghz cpu.

I was thinking of upgrading the cpu to a AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz.
I do mostly gaming and i was wondering if I would see a speed increase worth the hundred bucks or so it will cost.
I cant afford to upgrade the motherboard and cpu both so was hoping this would give me a significant boost.

The GPU usually makes most difference in gaming so it depends what you have right now. Unless your running an nVidia 980 of course 😉

You might see a small improvement in some games that are CPU intense, but I don't think it will be worth 100$, or even 50$.

What game are your trying to get better FPS?
What are the rest of your specs?

phenom II is old cpu and it isn't good choice just for a few mhz

-I have a r9 270x Gpu and 8 gb ram so I probably should just wait till I can afford a mb/ cpu combo ...i think the 965 is the fastest my mb will support...thanks for the advice
