Hi Toms,

I have been offered a trade for my Strix 970(Stock) + $300 for an r9 295x2 on /r/hardwareswap. I am an Nvidia fan due to the efficiency and reliability of their cards but the specs of the 295 are just through the roof. I have a 4k TV and a 1080p monitor which my 970 plays my games pretty solid. I'm not anal about my graphics settings, but I do like a constant 60 frames. At 4k I do have to turn down the settings a bit (mid-high)

My two options:

1. Trade the 970 + $300 for the 295 which involves me buying a new 750 watt PSU $100
(Current is 630 watt Antec VP)

= $400

2. Going SLI - Buying another 970 $300 and a SLI capable motherboard $100
(Current mobo Msi z97 Pc Mate)

=$400

Any advice?

That would be a hard call while its not a horrible deal I would aim for maybe 250 + 970 but also that is a last gen card not sure I would go backwards even if it is a beast. Last off I would prob look into trading your 970 for a 980 (not sure why anyone would do this LOL) maybe SLI that later you get rid of the 3.5 gig limit on the 970. I know that has not been an issue to many but at 4k it might just my 2cents.

Forget r9 295, sell 970, get 980ti. You can play 1440p 970sli 60-80 fps, 4k may hit 30-40fps at best. sli on 970 will not give you always even performance. Thats why 980ti would be the best option all around.

I tend to agree I have 980 Ti but that if you sell your 970 for 200 give or take it fits in line with your 400 spend if you get the 295. and 1 980ti does very well with 4k not max or anything but quite good. I run 5760x1080 on 1 980ti and I can max details on almost all games. You will not need new power supply either. I run mine with 3770 on a 650watt with no issue.
