I bought this monitor last week

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DGTVT8K3?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Its works great and looks amazing but to get the full 120 Hz of the monitor you need to plug it in from usb c instead of mini hdmi other wise you just get 100Hz
The monitor has 3 ports, 2 usb c's one for power, one for display and one mini-hdmi for display

I bought this cable
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRYB62TR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
usb c to displayport so I can plug into my graphics cards on my desktop

however it just doesn't work, nothing happens when i plug it in.

Assuming a brand new cable isn't faulty, is there any reason why I can't get this work?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Have you tried using another display port source to hook the cable up to the output on your system and the input on the external monitor? Speaking of which, we're flying blind in terms of what you have to work with system specs wise. You should mention the make and model of your motherboard and processor(in case you can get iGPU) and your discrete GPU.

To add, I'm concerned that the cable you have might not be the right one for the job. This;

is a bi-directional cable meaning you can use either a USB type-C output(like a MacBook, tablet or a phone) and a DP input or a DP source and a USB type-C input. I've been reading the listing to your cable, it doesn't state you can use the DP end as your source and the Type-C end as your input to the monitor.

This is why I've asked if you hooked the cable to another display output source...?
