Need some Help with my new Gforce2 GTS

I am currently running A Asus P3V4X Motherboard with a 256mg, I just installed a ASUS V7700 Video card (64mg DDR) and the video card will only operate in X2 mode, Even though both the Mother, and Video are suppose to work in X4 agp mode. I have checked the Bios and it is set for X4. Does anyone have any idea what the FORK? I have the most current drivers for both the Mother and Video, also have the most current BIOS updates. Any help would be great.. I am currently using WIN 98SE as a OS. Thanks for your time.

I'm having a very similar problem. I have the V7700 32MB pure version, on a CUSL2 motherboard. I have also loaded the latest drivers(v6.31c) set the mother board BIOS appropriately, and even tried the GeForce Tweak Utility(http://www.geforcetweak.com/). This utility claims to set the card to the AGP 4X mode but all the indicators I have say the card is operating in the 2X mode. Atthough from time to time I have noticed an improvement in my 3DMark99 scores but nothing consistent, one day its running 110 FPS the next day 85 FPS.

The ASUS web site claims that NVida recommends the 2X mode for stability. I don't know aboutyou but I didn't want to buy a 2X card. For the Intel chip set they recommend downloading V77bios.exe from their web site to enable the 4X mode. After several attempts I managed to download this file but it would not update my video BIOS. Thus I'm still seeing rather average video performance. They also had a suggestion for the Via chip set, but I don't remember exactly what was suggested. You can find it in ASUS's product support knowledge base section.

I'm considering trying the detonator 12.41 drivers as a next attempt to fix the problem. If they did lock the card in the 2X mode with the BIOS this will probably not fix the problem. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Your problem is likely caused by a BIOS protection for overclocking. To disable that feature, download <A HREF="http://www.blarg.co.uk/reviews/cusl2fix.zip" target="_new">http://www.blarg.co.uk/reviews/cusl2fix.zip</A> and follow the instructions. This should give you back controll of memory timing and reenable AGP4x.

Your problem could be caused by 4x being blocked by a hidden feature in BIOS. This is because some VIA chipsets cannot run 4x reliably, especially under certain BIOS revisions. Try downloading the latest BIOS and installing the latest 4-in-1 drivers in Turbo mode.
