need to update bios for new cpu?

hd6950 gpu
fx6100 cpu
750w antec psu
8gb ram
990fx mobo

im wondering if ill need to update my bios for a new fx8350 cpu, on the support list for the board, it says since version 1703, and my version is 0705. i had it installed before but none of my peripherals would connect, including the display, so im wondering if the cpu is fried or i just need to update the bios

Probably just need to update the BIOS. It's a good idea to use the latest version as they often include bug fixes besides compatibility.

I believe that is correct. You need to flash the BIOS before updating to that CPU and your periphs should connect without issue.

it is a Asus Sabertooth 990FX, and also how would i go about updating it? ive never upgraded a cpu before so idk how all this works lol and thanks everyone for all the help, my local computer shop had me believing i fried it and spent 150 bucks on a new cooler lol so HOPEFULLY thats not the case

No that mobo should not have to be updated to work. Thats a really solid board.

Enter the needed information, like OS version and there should be BIOS to download. Download the latest version, close all programs, then install the BIOS. Be very careful that the process does not get interrupted in any way. Once complete you can change the CPU. Make sure to use fresh thermal paste when installing the new CPU/HSF and clean off all the old.

Latest BIOS version is 1604, which is the BIOS that supports 8350.

thats strange...when i was on that last, it had 1703 as the latest, tried that and the ez flash failed, saying integrity check failed, so im gonna try the 1604 now and hope that works, im also using a flash drive since it wasnt able to read from the c:/ drive
