Hi all,

I have recently purchased NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE and as my current spec is very weak for such a good graphics card I want to get a new Intel 11th gen processor for which I need a new Motherboard and maybe RAM as well?

My Current spec is
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3 Intel Skylake ATX
CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K 4.0GHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4
PSU: RMi Series RM1000i 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular

PC is being used for gaming, Internet browsing, watching movies.

Questions:
  1. Which Intel 11th gen processor should I get?
  2. Which gaming motherboard should I get?
  3. Should I get new RAM as well? I want 16GB, any advise?

I have already spent a lot on new graphics card and PS5 as well so do not want to spent a lot on those if possible.

Thanks in advance

Hello There!
What type of games?
Hi,
Well I play World Of Tanks online and then any other newest single player games like Call of Duty, Doom, Horizon Zero Dawn, Fallout, Just Cause etc.
Whats your budget?
I don't really know to be honest, I just want to bring my PC up to my RTX 3090 performance and hope it will not cost me thousands again
Hello There!
Monitor Resolution?
the main one is Acer ConceptD CP3271KP 4K UHD 144Hz 27" which I use for gaming, I have it set to 2560x1440 at the moment and also have 2 more, regular Acer 24"

Actually is this 10th gen would be a good choice for me?
Intel Core i9-10900K Desktop Processor 10 Cores up to 5.3 GHz Unlocked LGA1200 (Intel 400 Series Chipset) 125W

Yes it would be awesome although i9 10850k would be better it's the same chip but inexpensive @$390. These things are power hogs so remember to provide good cooling to your CPU.
Ps:You could consider Ryzen route R9 5900x

11th gen as far as the 11700k goes, doesn't really show any gains worth mentioning over the 10700k and is still pretty firmly behind the Ryzen 5800x in almost everything.

The 11900k and 11600k are still under media embargo until the 30th. But considering the 11900k is supposedly the same cpu as the 11700k with a 200MHz bump in clocks, both 8c/16t, the 10850k at 10c/20t and better performance than the 11700k is looking to be the sweet deal for Intels.

It's going to be hard to get a 5900x and 5950x, and unless you have unlimited budget, them chips are not a good value IMHO. I mean geesh their expensive. Especially just for gaming NOT needed.

3700x or 10700 (229 at microcenter) are a LOT cheaper.

Save money for a good 1TB NVME drive.

Best all around cpu atm as far as value, gaming, production etc goes is the 5800x. Granted it's not quite upto the 5900x or 5950x levels or even the 10900k is some aspects, but it'll run on a plain-jane B550 all day, fits in almost every case combination out there with its lack of exotic cooling needs, mid range aircooler and good to go. Or a 140/240mm AIO. Its half the price of the 2 bigger cpus and in most cpu bound titles only a few fps behind as it's strong enough to make most cpu bound titles more gpu dependent.

Wait for reviews of 11th gen to come out 3/30.
I am guessing that the i7-10700K will be the cpu of choice.
It is 11th gen processor that will let you run m.2 gen4 pcie devices.
I9-11900K is the top dog, but you can't enter a pre order, and the price will be >$600.
I expect it to be largely unavailable.
I7-11700K can be preordered at newegg today for $418:
https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i7-11700k-core-i7-11th-gen/p/N82E16819118233?quicklink=true
I would pay extra to get the K with integrated graphics.
If there is a graphics problem, you can still run.

Your ram will be fine, no need to change unless you need 32gb.
Intel does not depend on ram speed for performance.

On motherboard, the Z590 prices look to be reasonable.
It looks like $220-$250 can get you a nice Z590 motherboard with robust VRM cooling.

Thanks a lot for your replies, now I am deciding between Ryzen 9 5900x and 5950x , any good gaming motherboard for those out there?
As mentioned by some getting hands on 5900x and 5950x is quite difficult at MSRP. Although I do agree with you,as you are a premium user with a 4k monitor and a 1440p monitor with a 3090-so yes it makes sense to me by getting a 5900x or even a 5950x at $550 & $800 respectively as they give really good value at that price. For mobo most of the X570 for about $250 or more would be really good. Some of them are X570 Aorus Elite or X570 Tomahawk.

Intel's 11th gen Rocket Lake cpu's will be officially released three days from now. I'd wait to see the reviews/benchmarks from sites such as this one before making a decision. More 11th gen cpu's along with the new B560 and Z590 boards will start showing up on Newegg within the week. With that said, the i9 isn't really known for being a great deal for a gaming cpu.

thanks for all your replies, I have managed to grab AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Processor for only £445 so now need to decide on a motherboard and some RAM.

Do I understand this correctly, if the board is AMD then it will support Ryzen 9 5900x ?

with a 4k monitor and a 1440p monitor with a 3090-so yes it makes sense to me by getting a 5900x
Ahh but that's the thing. Even with a top line gpu, Op is going to be gpu bound in everything. He won't be aiming to get 200fps from games, he'll be aiming to get anything from 60 and up.

You could slap a 3600x on a 4k monitor and not tell the difference to a 5900x. Even 1440p is somewhat more gpu bound in many titles, aiming higher than 144Hz, turn on the eye-candy and cpu disappears.

Oversized cpu isn't going to do anything if the gpu is the limiter.

A mobo with a X570 and B550 chipset would work, can you tell me your budget so that I can also help you with some options?

Is this a good one? Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO AC ATX Motherboard for AMD AM4 CPUs
Yes it would work although I'd recommend you to get an X570 chipset for the system you have.

I'm sure that you are right a benchmark won't show a difference between a 3600 Vs 5900x at 4k but using and experiencing the pc give will deffinelty show a difference also I guessed you might have missed as he posted on the post above that @rus4u has dual monitors and a 144hz 4k primary monitor. So deffinelty the extra CPU power would help. Also Cyberpunk uses all the 10c of i9 10850k at 1440p with a 3090 so I'm sure it would be the same for 5900x.

Game code use of cores has nothing to do with resolution. Cyberpunk would use the same cores at 720p or 8k. Code is code, there isn't seperate codes for each resolution. If a cpu can dish out 500fps on Minecraft, that's what it sends to the gpu. A 1440p with a 3090 will show higher fps than a 4k on screen, simply due to refresh rates, but even at 1080p, if the monitor is 60Hz, you get 60fps visible.

Big difference between what a gpu Can put on screen, and what a gpu can put on Screen.

So once past refresh, higher fps lows doesn't have much affect on anything.

Hi all,

I am a bit too tired deciding on which processor to get, different people advise different stuff.

I have been looking at these:
Ryzen 5 5600X 6 core, 12 threads
Ryzen 7 5800X 8 core, 16 Threads
Intel i7 10700K 8 core, 16 threads
Intel i9 10900k 10 core, 20 threads

Are they any good? Is i9 10900K the best out of those as it's got 10 core and 20 threads?
Will those match up my RTX 3090 performance?

Thanks

P.S. I have not managed to get that 5900, the seller cancelled the order saying no stock

Look at the differences, not just the numbers. The 11900k is not worth it, period. It's a costlier version of the 11700k, which is still considerably worse than the cheaper and more power efficient 5800x. The 5800x is killing everything in terms of productivity value, the 5900x is its only rival, and superior, but hard to get and cost is a factor.
The 11600k goes head to head with the 5600x, but is cheaper, usually, and consequently a better deal.

Realistically, the only reason to opt for a 10900k would be for productivity, you'd not realistically see any difference to a 11600k or 5600x unless you are an uber fps gotta have it junkie.

5800x has the best overall mix of everything, the 11600k is looking to be value gaming king, the 5900 is productivity value king and the 10900k its queen.

So if all you really do at any given time is play, the 11600k or 5600x will serve you well for years, the 5800x will do the same for longer but costs more, but if multitasking like a bandit is your thing, the 5800x will have advantages as will the 10900k.

The 10900k is the only Intel cpu worth considering other than the 11600k atm.

I'd suggest you to get i9 10850K which is basically i9 10900k but inexpensive. The i9 is a solid value as it's even cheaper than the Ryzen 7 5800x.Imo the 5800X makes no sense at $450 as it only 8c/16t, whereas 8c CPUs from AMD have been available from 2017 for $350-yes they aren't great as 5800x but the prices were awesome, 5800x has higher IPC and clock speed(good work amd) but with all those improvement they are about 10% faster overall compared to i9 also the 5800x has 20% lesser core counts and 20% lesser threads and that's after paying extra for- 5800x? Hmm thats a hard Pill for me to swallow. The problem with Ryzen 5000 series is their price the only CPUs that makes sense is Ryzen 9 5900x/5950x.

No need for a 10 Cores CPU if you only play games. Games will not ask for a 10 cores any time soon. I say 8 cores because at the moment 6 cores 12 threads is more than enough but in 4-5 years it could be 8 and you will have that 8
I don't agree with you that games don't use 10c watch the games play of cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p with an i9 and 3090 the CPU load is most of the time above 55% i.e all of its 10 physical cores have been utilised.Let me give it to you this way 'You dont need 10c to play games but they will use them' theres the grey area;)

View: https://youtu.be/5vgffKhyHTY

Even in warzone the CPU spikes upto 62% at 1440p that's well above 10c. Yes 8c will do it fine but i9/R9 will do it better, the performance would be great, games would be buttery due to better frame times also better multitasking. Remember rus4u has 4k144hz and a 1440p monitor so.....
@rus4u the CPUs that I'd recommend you are;
I9 10850k
Ryzen 9 5900x
Ryzen 9 5950x
Again I'll say it you are a premium user with a 3090 4k144hz and a 1440p monitor don't go cheap on your CPU swapping GPU is a not a big deal but the CPU is a big trouble.
So I'd recommend you a 5900x and a 5950x if possible but ik the availability sucks but if you can find one go for either 5900x/5950x and it'll serve your 5+years hopefully.

Some of you still recommend cpu's when he posted this together with a question about what motherboard to use, maybe focus on that?

He btw hasn't responded since march 29 so maybe already has that too?
