Hi am building my own custom PC. i was looking to purchase a AMD fx 6300 CPU from Amazon but they don't have it instock. i can only buy from Amazon as i've been gifted amazoon vouchers by family. can anyone recommend me a substitute CPU which is comparable to a fx 6300 in specs? am really new at PC building and would appreciate your valuable inputs. thanks

Hello, my budget for a cpu would be around £70-80 max. bought everything else, just need to put a cpu in there and all set :)

If you have already bought the motherboard, what make/model is it?
The cpu needs to be compatible.

They already bought everything as they stated, except the CPU, so they are limited I would assume to an AM3+ motherboard, just can't get the 6300 which doesn't leave much.

as said for budget, i was thinking £80 max but i could probably stress it to £100 if i cant get one for lower. i would be primarily gaming on this PC and be more than happy if it plays most games smoothly on medium settings. i plan to upgrade the PC within a ear and half, yes.

the motherboard is a Gigabyte 78LMT AM3+. thanks.

will a Intel i3-4160 Dual Core Processor fit in there and is it as powerful in performance as a fx6300?

No, intel will not work with a amd motherboard.
It is not suggested to pair a FX-8 with that motherboard, even if you were to budget the higher price and it is supported.

Here is a list of the supported processors for your motherboard.

There are other FX-6 processors that should be similar.
To assess the performance of any processor option you can find, look at the passmark numbers for each.

The FX-6300 should be powerful and fit in that motherboard.

Thanks to all of your help. I've purchased the fx6300 :) and build the computer in just minutes. It is now up and running. Really, i cant thank you enough!.

However, I've ran into another small trouble, the dvd drive isn't reading any disk (its an asus CD/DVD drive). I mean, windows recognises that there is a dvd drive in place but it refuses to work. I'll upload some photos in an hour or two to show the exact error it gives me for yoyr better understanding.

Have you been able to run any CD/DVD's in it or does it give that error for all software? If it does, it could be malfunctioning. If it's just one CD/DVD that could be the culprit. Double check your connections also from the motherboard to the drive and make sure everything is secure.
