Hi, have 3 machines at home, mine (win98), my kids (win98)(upstairs) and my server(2k server), all programs etc that I used to have on cd, are now stored on the server so basically the system upstairs doesnt need to access the cd drive (kids & loads of cds=trouble..)anyway, althought bioth my system and the one upstairs both have cd drives in them, I would like to create a boot disk that will allow either of the 98 systems to access the shared drives on the server, can anyone offer any suggestions?

Hi there!

I was browsing for something I had posted and saw your message. I was searching for the exact same thing on the Microsoft Technet website and found my answer in the newsgroups of MS Technet.

Basically, Windows 2000 NO LONGER HAS Windows NT's "Network Client Administrator" in it - neither Win2k Server nor Professional has it but if you want to make a network boot disk and have Windows NT Server 4.0 CD-ROM, then you can still run it from within Win2k to create network boot disks.

Here are the URL's to Microsoft's articles on making a boot disk and also for adding your network card's driver to the Network Client Administrator's "list" of NIC drivers:

http://www.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q252/4/48.asp
==>(this article is to "install" Network client admin into Win2k from the NT CD)

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q128/8/00.asp ==>(this article is to add your network cards to the Network client admin list)

Good luck and hope you have access to an NT Server 4.0 CD for this. I followed the instructions and have successfully installed Win2k Pro over the network, so you should be able to copy the contents of the programs from the CD's by using this method. It's a little tedious but it does work.

Thanks a lot for the info, unfortunatly I no longer have NT4 but hopefully I can find someone that has, I know we have it at work but they are a bit (LOT) security conscious and its unlikely I could get one from there, I know a few people that USED to have it so I'll have to ask around, thanks again for the info.

Go to either:

www.bovistech.com

Both are great sites.
