Can someone suggest a very good high quality router for my office. We are a small business and we have 5 computers using the data on a single computer and the router provided by the phone company was a POS. Can someone also recommend a good quality thumb drive

I think we're forgotting something... If the router was provided by the phone company, most probably this router is a combo ADSL/router device, which makes recommending a purchase much more difficult. The OP will need separate[ DSL modem, in addition to the router, as combo DSL devices don't have "bridge" capability.

So, @Anthony - check with your ISP whether it can provide modem only, and for you to supply your own router.
Pretty much any good quality home router will provide the basic functions. Assuming you don't need VPN or other special services. I like the Asus routers because of the solid WiFi and easy to manage settings page. The exact one will depend on your budget. If WiFi isn't an issue, then pick an older or less expensive one.

For a tighter budget, many people have recommended TP Link. My experience with the brand is several years old. Over time, it required occasional rebooting to keep the wifi in operation, even when the router was still functioning. Which is why I went to DLink then Asus.

As far as thumb drives go, I use Micro Center house brand. Thumb drives are mostly fast enough for normal data transfer and are practically generic.

What about the ISP issued router made it a POS? Was it a bad router or did it just not do what you needed?

Are you just wanting simple gigabit networking for the 6 PCs? Is wireless something you need?

It goes out every other day practically leaving the staff SOL and not able to complete work with clients. We need something that is not going to go down like that after a year of use. Basically we are transferring word documents and internet service and it has to be wireless!

Agreed. Unless you need VPN service or multiple internet connections (for redundancy) then pick one of these consumer grade routers:

ASUS RT-N66U (if you don't need AC wireless)
ASUS RT-AC66
NetGear Nighthawk R7000
Linksys WRT1900AC
