Hi,

I just wanted to alert everyone to avoid buying anything from PARAGON TECHNOLOGIES, INC (www.paragoncomp.com)!!! Even if what your buying is 1/2 the normal price, dont do it!! I took a chance and ordered a 1.2 G Thunderbird from them, which they didnt have in stock. I cancelled my order literally 45 minutes after it was placed, when I was made aware of this fact. They proceeded to charge my credit card (american express - due monthly) after I received a cancellation confirmation email from their sales department.

Its been two months now, they wont respond to my emails,or phone calls and the charge hasnt been removed from my account. Now I have to go through the NIGHTMARE of fighting this charge with American Express!!!

I have used a number of other online vendors who are excellent and have either the same, or better prices, than Paragon.

BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!

I don't pay much attention to credit cards, but don't some of these credit cards have like an insurance? That if something is bad or gets wrecked you can get some money back?

Anyways, the mail-order (or internet order) is crap unless they are really a reputable dealer. Best thing when you are parting with a lot of money, is to look into the face of your salesman and make sure he knows you mean business. I think you'll have a better chance than with mail-order or via internet. If he/she then doesn't want to give your money back, you can make a big scene in front of other customers and they'll go to another store.

That really blows bud, but id strongly suggest that you call Amex, get a fax number for cust service, and fax them the cancellation confirmation and tell them you want the charge removed IMMEDIATELY..one thing ive learned with this is, the longer you take to jump on the CC, the more crap youll have to deal with.

I do wanna pick a bone with gorenc tho. While i tend to agree on making major purchases over the net where you cant see the salemen eye to eye (not to copy you, but entirely agree with the saying) I do think there are many reuptable, responsible and very competetive places to purchase items online, in particular puter parts. I built this puter with parts 99% purchased online, and although i was very concerned about things like replaced chips, wrong models, shipping problems, my experiences have been so far good (knock on wood). As a suggestion, what ive done with purchases over 50-100 bucks is, call them as well...most of these places will take the phone order just as easily as they would an online order, and if they whine about it, tell them you had a problem with their webpage. ALso, make sure ALWAYS that an item is in stock, which is another reason i often call...to confirm just that..and i have no problem lieing and saying that i dont see where it says that on the website, or it isnt saying. I mean, you arent paying for the call, because if they dont at least have a 1-800# listed right there, im not going to bother with them.
Yes there are schmucks out there, but there are clues. And ive been to stores that ive known, and some have even been busted for pulling chips and replacing them with much lower quality ones. And that was face to face. The old addage: you get what you pay for still holds, if something sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.
