Recently decided to upgrade my ram from 16gb to 32gb. When booting my computer up its fine and runs at 2133mhz but when turning it up to its intended speed of 3200mhz computer wont boot. Found that one of the module works fine at that speed when by itself and the other when by itself my pc wont boot so believe faulty ram? If anyone has any other ideas let me know. the ram I'm trying to install is corsair vengeance c16 (CMW32GX4M2E3200C16)
I've checked it should be compatible with my motherboard amd 400 and bios is fully updated.

Specs:
msi 1660 super
Asus b450 prime plus atx
ryzen 5 2600
550 watt evga power supply

Hey there,

This is a very often seen issue here in Tom's.

You are mixing and matching ram. Most of the time, they just may not work when mixed with other dimms. Doesn't matter if they are the same model and spec. If they are not part of a kit, there's no guarantee they will work. Simples.

You can use either one at the rated speed, but together they will default to base (2133mhz) if they are not a matched kit.

It may be possible to make them to work together, but it will take a lot of tinkering around in the bios. Again, with no guarantees.

I'd suggest RMAing the ram, and get a true 32gb kit. Then sell your original ram to offset the cost.

My bad I didn't say but I bought a brand new 2x16gb kit and tried to replaced my 2x8gb ram but believe one of the ram modules in that new kit may have a fault as it dosent perform at the intended speed and same speed as the other module

3200 is usually hard to get with a 2600 processor without a lot of work.

Set DOCP for your memory then manually change the speed to 2933.
