My old AMD Radeon 6870 finally kicked the bucket after years of service, so I decided to upgrade to a XFX Radeon R9 380X.
I followed all the proper steps before installing the new card;
-Removed any and all AMD/ATI software
-Removed all drivers (including registry edits)
-Scanned for leftover drivers, none detected
-Did the "guitar solo fingers" before installing the new GPU
I install the new card, I go to boot up my computer and...
...No display. Fans running, computer idling, just like normal, just no display.
I troubleshoot and try the following:
-Plug in the video cable to the onboard
-"Pre" install drivers
-Check BIOS settings for PCI Express options (no such options available)
-Uninstall the new card, disable the onboard, and reinstall the card
-Check BIOS settings for a onboard disable (no such option available)
Absolutely no response from the above.
Two things to note: The onboard graphics work just fine (I'm typing this with onboard graphics). I do have a 460W PSU, and the new 380x requires a minimum of 500W, but the old 6870 requires the same minimum and I've been running it for years.
Is it a dead GPU? Is the upgrade really affected by the lower watt PSU? Please help!
