Question New 8TB HDD - - - "I/O device error" when trying to initialize it ?

I've purchased a new 8TB Seagate Ironwolf HDD and I'm trying to install it in a PC running Windows 11.
It detects the device but when I try to 'initialize' it a pop-up says...

" the request could not be completed because of an I/O device error "

BIOS is not detecting it. Tried to connect it to a linux mint live session - gives me the same i/o error. Is the hdd defective or what?

I connected a different 1TB drive to the same SATA connection and it works fine.

It looks like you've been sent a faulty HDD. Try and get it exchanged.
