I'm going for a new build.
Budget is ~$700CAD, or ~$570USD
I play modern games, but I also like photoshop. I haven't used photoshop in 2 years, so I thought I might as well get a build that keeps that option up decently.

Any discrepancies?

I like the tri cores myself. Soooo tempting to get a phenom 1 at their cheap price point.... nonono grrr...
Don't screw myself over by getting a dual-core, but still cheap.
ECS is junk, I know, but I like the board itself. ECS doesn't even provide support for all their boards (the one I'm using now, which according to them doesn't exist). There is a board I may buy locally though.

I plan to run the card at complete stock speeds, so I don't really care about that. I may overclock the CPU later, but for now I don't plan to.

It's not actually my money I'm spending (well all but $100 anyways), and it won't be my computer, but I will use it the most.
I forced myself to decide on what seems to be a nice PSU, don't make me buy anything else high-quality (expensive). My original plan was to spend $200 on upgrades.

Thank you though, it's always important to consider all feedback. :)
It would be nice to have a higher budget, I know it's not much, but I've been unemployed for 20 months...

My old 1.6GHz AMDx64 on a gigabyte board still runs like a champ after all my abuse (hmm maybe I should also buy a grounding wrist strap ha).

I may go for that PSU, it's certainly not my area specialty (though that one is hideous... guess I'll also have to spend $10 on a can of spray paint).

I honestly don't care about decent quality RAM.

For the HDD, I'd rather stick with seagate (I know and love them), though if there's any reason, I'm more than willing to listen on your suggestion.

You're looking at USD, I'm looking at CAD.
1 Canadian Dollar = 1.24 American Dollar.

Reason for that HDD suggestion was that, recently seagate HDD(Especially the 1TB and higher drives) have been plagued with problems...but many say the problem has been fixed though...And the F1 drives that I have suggested, perform comparitively well...
The RAM has heat spreaders...that was the main reason I had suggeested that...Even the crucial ones are good but it would be better if it has heatspreaders...
And the PSU has more power...
But I would suggest this one instead of my previous OCZ...

Though will save me money from having to buy the paint to fit it to my gray case, which I keep uncovered (reduced temps by about 10C, but a lot more noise).

I will definitely think about the Samsung HDD.

would wait on the 47xx series gpu's from amd/ati since you'll be able to get the power of a 4850 for the same price as the 4830 or shave those $ and get the 4830 equivalent and spend the saved money on a better mobo.

Well for $8 more, you do get a much more stable PSU and yes saves you on paint too :p ...
And as for the HDD, you can stick with seagate...

Quite entertaining actually.
I remember 4 months ago when I first started figuring out my build. I was told to wait a month or so and the 4870 was gonna be cheap... I'm still waiting 4+ months later...
That's also a issue of the technology market. It's too unstable to predict (for me at least), and though prices drop through time, it's always a waiting game.
Wait for the Core 2 Duos to upgrade, wait until the Core 2 Quads, then wait for the i7s, then the i5s etc.

I understand your point, but I think a upgrade every 2 years would be nice. :)
I had my first computer 11-12 years ago. $2000 and all my mother could do with it was do her taxes, and I could play DOS games. I miss that thing.

Actually the 4770 is a replacement of the 4830...So ATI would launch that card at the price point of the 4830...This was the reason why that was given as an opton ;)

May 4th... can I wait until them?
I'm using a 4670 (awesome card for the price), but I'm returning it soon.
Then back to my Nvidia 7500LE (cool, quiet, slim, and to link all those factors: junk).

I have to return this card soon, or they won't give me my money back. It's already past their return date (though I pointed out they gave me a crappy and wrong card, so they said they'd allow a full refund, I just don't know when they will extend that to). Going without a decent video card for a while will be kinda crappy, but I guess I have up to 10+ days to wait for all the parts to arrive anyways, which I'm ordering likely on Saturday.

I though the 4750 was the 4830's replacement since I can see stocks of both the 4830 and 4850 lowering. ATM there's only one 4830 that you can buy at scan, same with overclockers.co.uk.

Hmm...well few confusions though... :pt1cable: Many report 4770 as 4830 replacement but when I searched the net, I did see many of them mentioning the 4750 as the replacement :heink:
:p Better wait till their reviews come up in the net before coming to a conclusion...:p

Well I dont claim something on the Fly...

Check this out...Its a leaked ATI presentation comparing the 4770 to a 9800GT...And I sure know that the 4830 is the current competiton of the 9800GT...So am certainly not wrong in claiming that it is a replacement of the 4830...:p
