I'm curious if these temps are in a fair range for the 7800x3d with an Air Cooler, Room temp 70C, CPU idle was 37-40C but when gaming (playing Darktide) CPU temp was staying 83-85C for about a 30min session. I haven't built an AMD rig in quite a while as well as haven't used an MSI motherboard in a good bit. This was a build for my friend and I couldn't sway him into an AIO but either I need to adjust fan curves in BIOS or this is just a toasty chip. I'm still kind of sifting through the Bios learning MSI vs Gigabyte, currently fan curves are all on the default MSI settings, Re-sizeable bar is enabled, DDR5 set @6000mhz and stable(without AMD expo).

I also have not disabled the Integrated graphic yet would that help if any at all?

Does AMD have anything like Intel's Insta 6ghz feature? I'm guessing that's what PBO kind of is, if so can I enable it and not make temps go any higher

Are there any other settings I need to adjust in the Bios aside from what I currently got? If anything I'd really like to drop the CPU to 75C if plausible.

First Timespy benchmark was 24985 CPU @ 81C 12325 CPU score(low) GPU @ 61C GPU score 30355(average)

Pc specs

Msi Mag X670E
7800x3D
Peerless assassin120 CPU Cooler w/ MX-6 Paste.
Corsair 1000W psu
G.skill flare ddr5 6000
Samsung 990pro 2TB
XFX 7900XTX
NZXT H7 FLOW (Case) with x3 Phanteks M-25 as intake up front and 2 M-25s as exhaust at the rear.

Thanks for the help!

The only way your going to get the 7800x3d to 75c is AIO 360mm +

My 7800x3d runs at 80to 83 with the Noctua NH U12a and and 83 to 85 with the deep cool Ak500 digital
and around the 80s with the NZXT x63 280mm aio in R23 allcore !

Not sure if you can PBO tune the x3d cpu's ( i never bothered ) which MAY help drop temps ..

when i was using the 7600x with a arctic freezer ii 420mm aio it wouldnt go past 75 c in R23 allcore

That said i think like all zen4 cpu's they dont really thermal throttle till they break the 95c limit so 85c is acceptable temps !!

The way to run Ryzen cooler is curve optimizing...which is basically undervolting. As the CPU frequency goes up, the voltage needs to rise too, but usually not as much as default, so by optimizing you can reduce power usage and heat.
You can find videos on how to this manually, or you could try "Ryzen master"...I had good results with it, dropped my 7600x from 120w and 90c to 70w and 70c without hurting performance.

Thanks for the feedback, we did make a little progress and applied a slight undervolt to the CPU and dropped temps between 75C-79C underload. Probably gonna hook up my old corsair 360mm aio and see if we can get some real gains lol.
