My Hardware specs:
Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150
ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 Motherboard
G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)
Rosewill PHOTON Series PHOTON-750 750W Continuous @40°C,80 PLUS Gold Certified
Intel 530 Series 240GB Internal SATA Solid State Drive
NVidia GTX 770

All of the hardware is brand new and system powers off maybe once a month (only happend twice now, after this 2nd time i turned off the default BIOS setting of multicore optimization). Other than that. the motherboard is running with default settings. It only does so when I'm sleeping and the system is idle(with chrome open and maybe a video paused that was playing off a storage drive) All the drivers are installed and working perfectly, its just once a month ill wake up to the computer being off.

i thought it may be the voltage protection feature, which turns the system off when the voltage gets too low or too high but I am in a dedicated power line that was just installed, configured and tested by 2 different electricians and both claim it is perfect. Its also connected to a brand new surge protector that also seems to be working perfectly. i don't want to remove the voltage protection feature because it warns connected devices may break if i do so (if that even is the problem).

I just wish i could figure this out. its not windows updates (the feeling it only happens once a month made me suspect this) and i cant seem to find a log of any kind stating why it is turning itself off. The system is working perfectly besides this randomly sparse and spuratic problem that only happens when I'm sleeping and the system isn't being utilized.

When i am on it, i am gaming my heart out without any problems! Very weird.

Other info: Not happening on a scheduled basis. first time was between 3-5am near the beginning of the year (i don't sleep long) and the 2nd time was during a 2 hours nap between 11am-1pm today BIOS is what shipped with the Mobo (didnt want to update unless i REALLY have to). The computer is not running hot, powering off when idle. Able to power it on as soon as i awake and notice it. All drives and devices work after powering on again. No adverse effects, able to game my heart out without any problem

I have the system running in High performance mode with Hibernate completely disabled and Sleep mode set to never. Do you still suggest i turn off C6 and C7?

Nothing that i can find in the sense of a log. Ive gone through the Windows event viewer and saw nothing that would be causing this at all. I was told to look into my MoBos logging system for answers (if it was a power issue) but i do not seem to have one or able to find it.

The power seems to have gone off at exactly at noon, judging by my system event log and rechecking it now, the only odd thing i see int here since powering it back on is

The embedded controller (EC) returned data when none was requested. The BIOS might be trying to access the EC without synchronizing with the operating system. This data will be ignored. No further action is necessary; however, you should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS.

Just another thing, I have my Paging File set to 2-4MB on a 10k gaming drive (windows 7 is installed on an SSD and was told to move the paging file to a different drive if possible) . I never have a problem gaming/stress testing the system with this config but i think it is also worth noting.

Update: I have updated my BIOS CPU C- States from Auto to Enabled and changed my C6 and C7 to off. The C6 latency was set to short and my C7 was set to long, these did not grey out once turned off so I just wanted to note that. This is my first Haswell machine, before this i was using a Core2Quad so all of this is new territory to me.

I have an i7 4790K and an Asus Hero VII ROG motherboard... and I too have had the random shutdown issue.

I have update my bios to newest version, switch out memory sticks to different brands and slots, removed 1 of 2 AMD HD 7970 video cards... tried the other video card... still shuts down. I have an Corsair H110i? or 100i water cooler and it purrs like a kitten and doesn't come close to hitting any ram sticks in any slots.

I read that someone else bought a brand new 1000w PSU and switched out their old one and nothing changed.
I did not want to repeat this last course of action as power supplies are expensive.

Finally i think the issue is resolved.. But I don't know what bios setting I changed that fixed it. It would shut off about 2 times a day, and now 2 days passed and it seems fine.
For bios settings I would disable C6 State, Speedstep, Turbo Features, Auto Overclock features, set your memory speed up manually and whatever else you think may be an issue.

I did tweak some stuff with the memory that was labeled something like Memory Tweaking <auto> and I change it to <full power phase> or something to that effect.

I seems the default values are not stable on this motherboard and you will need to tweak stuff in the setting even if you don't know what your doing to get it stable... or just buy a different brand/model motherboard. Biostars have always been good to me for customers builds, but I do like my ROG boards (I have 2 - one Intel and one AMD ROG) both are awesome...and the AMD doesn't throw fits and shutdown. :)
