My luck is running out with computer hardware lately 🙁
too much issues with too many components and and ignorant tech support guys ...

anyways......

I plugged in a new Asus monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236112)
and see some options greyed out on the monitor panel like sharpness, ascr, saturation, skin tone etc... (img attached)
Other than that, monitor seems to be fine.
Secondly, the hdmi cable skews the display. I tried 4 different cables with the same results. The dvi cable works fine. (img attached).

Both these issues are happening with my older Asus monitor also which I did not notice earlier. The older monitor does let me lower the sharpness which I wanted to do with the new one also which led to all these investigations.

Called Asus tech support twice and all they could say is exchanged the monitor. I was willing to record the screen and email them for support but obviously they don't care.

I dont think this is monitor issue but something I am unaware of..
any help.......

Solution
Hey man,

It seems like your monitor is ok. Here are what seems to be the issues.

The reason certain options are greyed out is dependent upon which SPLENDID mode you're in. I don't know the exact configurations but Standard Mode usually has ASCR greyed out but gives you access to user controlled colors. Try switching to another mode such as Scenery or Theater.

The reason why the HDMI looks strange is due to overscan. It looks like your overscan is set to around 15% or so. You need to drop it down to zero.

What you'll need to do is go inside your video card's settings such as the Catalyst Control Center (for ATI cards) and adjust it.

Here's a guide as to how...

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think it's really strange too that the option is so tucked away. They really should make it easier to get to as a lot of people are starting to use HDMI for their digital connection.

As for the tech support, geez, what can I say. I feel your pain man. :T

Glad I could help out and save you anymore hassle. I wish you and the monitor the best. :)
