First off, since you just got this laptop, id contact Asus technical support.
Secondly, it's only 1% off. Try misteriosly's fix above before proceeding with my suggestions below.
Examine the ac adapter. Something might be loose. If the ac adapter has two sections, try unplugging and plugging it back in.
I've had similar issues with hp laptops.
My fix was exactly in this order:
1. Taking the battery out.
2. Re-seating the memory.
3. Hold down the power button for 5 seconds.
4. Install the battery back into the chasis.
5. Test to see if the windows status states plugged in, charging.
