Question New Asus Vivobook X1505ZA overheating and shutting down

I bought a new Asus Vivobook X1505ZA laptop yesterday, and it seems to have an overheating problem. I run a game (the sims 4) for a short period and it overheats and shuts off within 30 minutes of running the game. I'm using windows 11 and I installed all the latest graphics / chipset drivers. The laptop runs hot even when I'm just using a web browser and no other programs. Is this likely a defective unit? Should I return it?

Where did you source the installer for The Sims 4? Can you check and see if your laptop is pending any BIOS updates? What sort of system resource usages do you see in Task Manager when you're idling on OS GUI?

I installed it using steam. I forgot about updating the BIOS, I will try that now.

While idiling with no programs I'm getting 1-10% CPU usage, 20% RAM. The fan is running at medium speed and the laptop feels warm.

While running the game it's about 20% CPU usage, 50% RAM, 10% GPU. The fan runs on high and the system abruptly shuts off after a short period.
