Hi guys,

I was wondering what you guys thought of the following build? I work in After Effects, Creative Suite and Cinema 4D. I'm also interested in using Red-Shift renderer on this machine so being able to preview my renders and create final output is also important.

I considered the i9 9900K for its high clock-speed but was concerned it wouldn't provide the PCIe lanes I need to fit the M.2 drives and the GPUs?

What do you guys think of the following build by Scan computers for £5,211.43? Would I be able to add GPUs later down the line?

CPU - AMD 2nd Gen 16 Core Ryzen Threadripper 2 2950X
Motherboard - Asus ROG ZENITH EXTREME X399 Motherboard
GPUs - 2x NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DDR4 3000 MHz RAM
PSU - Corsair HXi 1200W Full Modular 80+ Platinum
Cooling - NZXT 280mm Kraken X62 RGB All In One CPU Water Cooler
HD1 - Samsung 860 PRO 512GB 2.5” SATA SSD/Solid State Drive (OS)
HD2 - Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 2TB M.2 PCIe (Current Projects)
HD3 - Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 250GB M.2 PCIe (AE Cache)
HD4 - WD 2TB Red Pro 3.5" SATA3 Enterprise NAS HDD/Hard Drive (Overnight Backup)
Case - NZXT White H700
Warranty - 1st year on-site, 2nd and 3rd Return to Base

That is one hell of a build and it would be able to support more GPUs. That motherboard has 4x PCIe 3 x16 length slots in a x16/x8/x16/x8 configuration. Alternatively you could do something like this.

Thanks Jeremy. I was also considering the 3900X and your build comes in a bit cheaper which is definitely nice. I'm guessing the front fans on the case make it cooler but is there anyway to tone down that RGB lighting?

I would wait to see benchmarks comparing these two platforms. The x570 build only has dual channel. For productivity, the higher core count quad channel build might prove to be a better decision when it comes to performance benchmarks. I'm not saying that is the case, but something to consider.

You can piece things together by looking at the older reviews (yes things have changed since then in terms of drivers and patches). Overall the 3900X gives performance on average around that of the 2950X. The biggest differences then will be platform based. However, waiting until someone has done a full test comparing the 3900X against current Threadripper isn't the worst idea.

I thought that build had the blackout design with shouldn't have RGB fans, if not this is the non RGB fans case http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/define-series/define-s2-vision-blackout

Yes think you're right re: RGB lighting Jeremy. As for the benchmarks, probably wise to wait but looks like 3900x scores pretty well in both singe and multi-thread performance from that article
