Hello,

complete noob here trying to build his first ever PC. Everything went smooth or so I thought until I thought I was done and tried to turn it on to get into the BIOS etc and this happened:

  1. Turn on power supply (Corsair RM750X) (Only monitor connected to graphics card)
  2. Lights/LEDs on MOBO (Asus Strix z490 E-Gaming) and graphics card come on indicating (to me) that they have power)
  3. Press the power button on the case and more lights on the MOBO come on, case fans start spinning, the AIO (Kraken z63) display flashes once for 0.5s then goes (and stays) off (connected to CPU FAN) , the fans connected to the radiator keep spinning, graphics card LED start blinking
  4. MOBO goes through all the codes on the 'display', stops at '55'
  5. computer shuts down and all fans stop spinning
In the manual it says Code 55: memory not installed.
I have 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600 installed in slots DIMM A2 & B2 (as per mobo manual). Ram speed is also listed as 'ok/compatible' (lack of better word in the specs)...

Any help would be appreciated. I have been searching the internet and have unfortunately found that 55 can be almost anything... I have tried:

  1. taking out the RAM sticks and replacing them
  2. take out RAM and try to post with only one in DIMM A2
Since I don't have experience, I thought I'd ask before I try to place ram in each slot, flash CMOS, remove cpu cooler and reinstall CPU etc or do anything else (all things I found online). this all seems a bit intimidating... Would flashing CMOS even make sense since it is a brand-new Mobo with factory installed bios anyway? 🤷‍♂️

Happy to provide more information if that would be helpful. Just don't really know what would be...

Thanks in advance! Unfortunately I live in a foreign country and can't call customer support or anything since I unfortunately don't speak the language and I have until Friday to return anything before having to deal with manufacturers

Remove the CMOS battery and replace it after 15 minutes, see if that helps. Also, yes it's a good idea to move a single stick of ram across all slots to rule out a faulty stick/board/slot. You will need to do it with both sticks, individually.

Also, please include/list your specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
GPU:
PSU:

Where are you located?

I removed the battery for 15 minutes and used the time to remove and replug all connections. It helped that now the display of the AIO stays on... Guess I didn't plug it in properly the first time. Still get Code 55 though. removed the CMOS battery again and will then try to move the ram sticks across all slots as you suggested. Do I need to clear CMOS every time I move a stick to the next slot?

Edit 1:
moved both ram sticks across all slots. still get the same error message. Does this now mean that my ram sticks are faulty? If so, I would return them. Any recommendations on what to get instead? Should I go for the same or something else? Honestly, I think 32GB is be a bit overkill for me anyway so if there is ram one of you can recommend, I happily take suggestions :)

Edit 2:

did some reading and could it be that my ram is not compatible and I therefore get Code 55. In the ram section of the specs sheet it says:

4 x DIMM, Max. 128GB, DDR4 4800(O.C.)/4600(O.C)/4500(O.C)/4400(O.C)/4266(O.C.)/4133(O.C.)/4000(O.C.)/3866(O.C.)/3733(O.C.)/3600(O.C.)/3466(O.C.)/3333(O.C.)/3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666/2400/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel Memory Architecture
OptiMem II
* 10th Gen Intel® Core™i9/i7 CPUs support 2933/2800/2666/2400/2133 natively, Refer to www.asus.com for the Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists).

Do I need to buy ram that is supported natively for a first boot or does that not matter?

Hi Heiku77,

I have the same issue with the same mobo and an intel corei9.
(for me it's G.Skill 3600).

Did you manage to resolve the issue?
