Hello everyone, i just registered here but i have been a frequent flyer here for years for answers.

I am looking to upgrade but i am kind of stuck on whati want to go with, i already have a GPU and i am probably going to go with AMD due to intels issues but i could be wrong.

This pc i built it in 2015 with a g3258 Pentium dual core, then went to i5 4570 and then 4790... it just handled everything i threw at it but now it's throttling itself sometimes running at 2.8 ghz instead of 3.6ghz

Current:

MSI H81-e33
Patriot Viper DDR3 16GB
Intel i7 4790
PNY RTX 4060 (from a 1650S)
700W PSU Thermaltake (on its way out..)

Reason being i need to build new is its very outdated and i mean it does handle most of what i throw at it... however it is just time to upgrade, my power supply has been failing and crashing and idk if i should go buy a new one and integrate it into a new build or buy one to suffice till i build new and buy a new psu for the new build.

However i was looking at the ryzen 5 7600x or the 9600x, $225 vs $245, and then the motherboards would be B650 but i would rather opt for a better motherboard for the price ~max 250 or so but i would like a $200 motherboard.

The b650 can handle 9000 series but requires an update which i do not know how to do.

Any advice would be help ful or a part picker list.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

The b650 can handle 9000 series but requires an update which i do not know how to do.
Look for motherboard's that have the Q-Flash Plus(Gigabyte)/BIOS FlashBack(Asus)/Flash BIOS(MSI) option. You can flash/update the BIOS without ram or CPU connected to the board.

Any advice would be help ful or a part picker list.
Stylize your thread or post a followup post on this thread with info asked of in this thread;
and the community can chime in with worthwhile suggestions.

You could troubleshoot your system and see if you can extract something out of it but since Windows 10 will be out of support at the end of this year, I'd leave your current system alone for posterity's sake and maybe revamp it with a Z97 chipset board + DDR3-2133MHz dual channel ram kit as well as a 650W reliably built PSU but only when you have money to spare. Old builds like that tend to be a money pit and you don't get much in terms of a return.

Thank you!

Thank you for the pointer on the flash bios, it's all new to me and i wouldn't want to do something i would regret.

i would rather go with a newer motherboard for the support of PCI 5.0 incase i end up going with a newer card in the future. Trying to build something that'll last another 10 years!

i do not mind upgrading in the future, i just want to be on AM5 platform but the r5 7600x is ~225 and the r5 9600x is 245 on newegg, also looking at motherboards, gigabyte has a x870 but again trying to get the best bang for the prices. 200-250 is fine for a motherboard since i understand not to skimp out on those and the newer USB and wifi are nice options since i am on wifi right now.
