Not sure which way to go. Install W10 and go with the free upgrade offer to W11 so that I can roll back to W10 if it's buggy or I just don't like it... or start clean with W11. Any advice would be appreciated.

Solution
Start with Win 10.
A year from now, consider upgrading to Win 11.

There is nothing inherently wrong with WIn 11. There is also no compelling reason to jump onto a new OS that is 2 months old.

If you WANT to use Win 11 now, fresh install of Win 11.
I'm a fan of fresh installs of WIndows. Pick one and install it fresh. I use both OSs but WIndows 10 is still my primary.

To me, WIndows 11 is just Windows 10 with fancy 'window dressing' and more bugs. Totally unnecessary IMHO, unless you're running one of the new Alder Lake CPUs.

I was kinda thinking about a 12th gen Intel, but not for sure yet. What is the deal with those platforms and W11?

Windows 11 has the new 'thread director' active for the Alder Lake CPU's arcitecture (the mix of performance and energy efficient cores). Alder Lake CPUs will work in Windows 10 but don't currnetly benefit from the thread director. Basically, a free performance boost.

I decided to go with W10 for now. Once I upgrade to W11, I can always do a clean install if I feel it's necessary. Of course that means re-installing everything and resetting stuff... a drawback.

@alceryes
Thank you for that explanation pertaining to the Intel 12th gen series.
